    Essilor and Luxottica Partners!

I just figured that optiboard.com would have the news before any other site, but it seems like eyeoverheard.com has a story about Essilor and Luxottica in a joint venture in Australia and New Zeland. Why isn't this press release in teh industry news section and why isn't there a thread here discussing this. The implications are huge.

Been a rumour for some time now! What is going to happen in other parts of the world? How will this affect the (is it Luxilor or Essottica) partnerships in other areas, and could this be a trial run for world domination?
It’s so simple to be wise. Just think of something stupid to say and then don’t say it.

So you have to pay to discuss relevent news? I was not aware, I didn't see that anywhere when I signed up. BTW what good comes of a closed door discussion?

Also I value my privacy and paying requires I use paypal which will disclose my identity. I would rather discuss sujects freely here and that cannot be done with out anonimity.

I am no computer genius, but how does paypal reveal your true identity? As to speaking freely here, if you can't say it when people know who you are, maybe you shouldn't be saying it period. JMHO

Any financial support of Optiboard is strictly voluntary. You are welcome to subscribe or not. Don't knock those who choose to subscribe, as Amex says, membership has it's benefits. You don't have to use pay pal either. Email Steve and he'll give you an address to send a check if you want to help support this board. Only he will know who you are.....
What is who you are to do with anything you want to discuss here?

Also keep in mind that anything in the general forum can be read by the internet searching public. I for one feel that some issues should remain private to people that are in the industry and the Pros forum provides us that area.

Not at all... And nobody is suggesting it.

Your original post suggested that "nobody" on Optiboard was discussing it, while in fact, several people had been, for quite awhile.

There are many, many subjects that are posted there that never come up on the General Forum because they are of a sensitive nature regarding pricing, strategies, and other issues that should not/cannot be discussed in the open. Plus, on the Pro forum, posters are more likely to reveal their reactions to a current event, as opposed to the open forums.

I look at the Pro-forum as the "Optical Lounge", where you can kick back, and be a bit more candid about your views. It might mean something different to others, but that's what it is to me...

Actually not much, Lencrafters has a wholesale lab in Australia/New Zealand and has figured out they don't want to be in that business. Essilor like many European lens companies is in the business of running wholesale labs and producing lenses. So, Essilor took a majority stake of the lab, Lux still gets a minority stake and Essilor gets to run the show.
The concern comes in with the question of what is the next cooperation between these two behemoth companies.

For me its a moot point, I'm working on another tact.

One behemoth is ventureing into the online marketplace going direct to consumers the other has been going direct to consumers for years.

One behemoth has openly devalued eyewear and the services and the other has portrayed a professionals are important attitude on the surface.

To me it's the philosophies of both companies that's concerning. They're like night and day in appearence, is this when the wolf sheds it's sheepish clothing?

    well this is interesting.

Just came across this on EOH.

So, EOH makes a big to do about Essilor being on Eyefinity, but look who's next door, Zeiss. Zeiss has frames, they have labs, they have almost everything essilor has and more in other divisions.

So why does everyone focus on Essilor? Just me being curious.

The concern is actually that the steam roller has just added some more weight to increase its crushing power on its way to total domination and control of the optical business.

    Essilor v Zeiss

Everyone focuses on Essilor beacuse of the way they run the market. Zeiss is diversified into many different industries, not just eye care. They make a better product and support independants, too...

Thanks Chris, but I still wonder why Zeiss is never bashed.
