    Look who's back

Yup. I'm back. Not only here but I'm back in the optical game. Starting in less than two weeks I walk back into a retail lab

I tried to make a go of my passion for video and audio production. And I'll continue to pursue it - but the money just isn't there. I think my biggest problem was a portion of my clientele - I catered about 50% of my services to Optoms to help them produce local ads for cable and web distribution. No offense, but damn some of you OD's care cheap. :hammer:

We're glad to have you back!
We've lost a few around here, but gained a whole lot more!!

Why did you focus on the ODs? Are they the only ones left in Michigan with money?

OD's weren't my only focus, but it's a industry I know and I thought (foolishly in hindsight) that I could provide them a service using my video production skills and knowledge of the industry to produce multimedia content that would appealing to as well as expand their clientele.

It wasn't that the jobs weren't there - it's that a number of my clients became deadbeats and refused to pay. I also have a few that I provided low resolution copies of their final product for approval purposes - all of a sudden those low res videos were on their websites or they would hire a student for a local college to produce a 'very similar' video that I would see on the web or on local cable. I also did one flash-based interactive project for a OD in Detroit - he had some kid remove my security features and watermarks so he theoretically stole my work - I just don't have the resources to pursue payment.

But OD's only accounted for about half my clients - my other clients were really no better, just more varied in the types of industries.

Didn't feel like dragging this back up - but I'm out of work again :(

That said, the company I went to work for - let's just say horrible. If you want some details, PM me. I'd hate for anyone else to have to deal with what I dealt with in 2010.

Sorry to hear that. Michigan isnt exactly awash in job opportunities, either. Im not familiar with your situation, but if there's a way, maybe you could look at this as an opportunity to go back to school? Just a thought. Good luck.

Welcome back, and sorry to hear that your new opportunity was not all it was suppose to be.
