I am an ophthalmic surgical nurse/ER nurse who is involved with a missionary in Haiti. He is an optometrist, living in Haiti and has established 2 eye clinics in and around Montroius (pronounced mo-wee). The hospital in the area has one OR and is in fairly good shape for this area. I worked at this hospital while in Haiti following the eathquake. I am attempting to collect ophthalmic equipment necessary to perform cataract surgery. (Cataracts are very common in Haiti.) There are several eye surgery centers in Haiti, but not close to this area. My goal is to obtain the equipment needed and ship it to my Haitian contacts. Then I will make a trip down to assure we have all the needed equipment. Once everything is established, we will take eye surgery teams to Haiti and perform the operations. I am looking for companies/individuals to donate used or outdated (per US standards) equipment. My main needs are a phaco machine, an A-scan and a set of surgical instruments. If anyone has any leads regarding this, they will be greatly appreciated.
