Clinical studies have demonstrated that wearers can tolerate up to 2.0 prism diopters or more of vertical prism-thinning without adaptation issues. Beyond 3.0 prism diopters, however, the patient may experience unusual postural adjustments and other unwanted symptoms associated with excess vertical prism.

In my own personal experiences I find prism thinning causes ghost images around lights in very low powers, from say plano to around 1.00 or 1.50, my preference is not to have prism thinning in that range of power.
