You may have seen the numerous ads for SOL labs popping up all over the place. I've always known 'SOL' to stand for something else associated with luck.

To those independant opticians out there, this is Hakim Optical's alias wholesale lab supplier 100% owned and operated by Mr. Hakim himself.

There are 4 labs now established across Canada. Don't be fooled, you will be purchasing from and supporting your competitor.

Caveat Emptor.

After Hakim sold their labs and equipment to Essilor, there was a moratorium period- basically he had to sit on his hands for a period of time- where he wasn’t allowed to start another lab etc. Now that sufficient time has passed, he has taken the opportunity and once again entered the lab/lens market. This time however, to offset the capital costs he is heavily marketing his lab to other ECPs. To make this marketing program even more effective to ECPs, Hakim intelligently decided not to decorate it with his own name (one ubiquitous with inferior quality). However, if you visit Hakim’s newest location @ Kipling and Queensway, you will notice that a portion of the property is dedicated to SOL. I also find it quite hilarious that Hakimi thinks ECPs would be ignorant to the fact that he owns SOL. Even if he could fool everyone for a while, after time people will come to know that they are directly supporting Hakimi. Remember this company made the 2 for 1 deal an expectation in our industry, and also has a great competence for replicating top designer frames and placing their own “H” decal on it and selling it for FREE!
