No, they need acquisition (purchasing assets that will produce profits) to stay in the game. Can you name one lens manufacturer who's products aren't sold online?

    Just curious.

    Everybody sells or advertises online.......................

However there are different options of selling online:

Selling to the trade...........or selling straight to the consumer................or selling through a third party to the consumer

With a local lab, you can get kickbacks if you're the buyer rather than the owner. Helps your personal bottom line, that's for sure.

Everything is sold online from viagra, to illegal drugs, to illegal software. What makes Varilux unique is that over the past 50 years they have built this brand as a professionals only product, they have sold it at a much higher cost to the private practitioner under the guise of only professionals have access and chains and other trolls have been sold their alternative lenses at a much better cost. Now this brand that has becoem synonomous with professional progressive lenses is going direct to the patient through the most unprofessional channel. In short the company sold out to make a buck. Nothing wrong with making a buck, nothign wrong with selling out, but the quiet nature of this sell out is what jumps out to me.

They are hedging their bets by trying to keep it quiet just in case it doesn't turn out as expected. I would like to sell out without any consequences but all the benefits. I don't know where the phrase came from but it's fitting:

You live by the sword you die by the sword.

Which is a lie, because the new AVP is the Physio 360..........

I've always had a problem with this concept. I have a colleague who uses Essilor exclusively and believes that they really help his practice. He specifically writes "Physio 360" or "Comfort 360" on his Rx's and proudly explains to patients that they will not find this at Costco or Lenscrafters. I simply don't understand the strategy because I've never had a patient ever mention the specific name of a progressive. In fact, in 10 years I've never examined a patient who even knew which progressive they were wearing. I'm pretty sure they would be as happy with any progressive that I give them as long as it is fit correctly. Therefore, this strategy has always baffled me. I'm glad you've finally realized this.[/QUOTE]
