    Groove width

Having issues with groove width on Optronics 7E edgers. The groove is very narrow at the top and bottom of lens right in the center. If I widen the groove, it becomes much too wide at each corner of the lens. This narrow groove is causing a lot polycarb cracking issues.

    Anyone else seeing this?

Did you convert to the small groover on the drill or are you still grooving on the hub itself ?

    software?

I have had similar issues with the groover. Our 4 6es would do the same thing you described. The 4 7es that we got in 05 did it as well. Our new batch that we got last month do not. I updated the software in the old 7es and that issue went away. Might work for the 6e as well Dragon.

Call Optronics to convert the drill to a groover. That'll set you straight. We had the exact same problem.

So you've done the switch from drill to groove and it worked out ok? Want to make it sure it works before I drop the $4k

    $$

It will cost you NOTHING to update your software. Seems like that's what you should try first. Call optronics or go to their website. They may have a downloadable version you can put on floppies.

We also have a 7E, which is over 5 years old. We do a lot of grooving and I am not aware of any problems. I wear semi-rimless myself and I'm checking them now and they seem fine. We do try to keep up with software upgrades, but I don't remember having a problem before.

When something like that happens, it is usually a symptom that something like sizing or calibration is off.

Hadn't heard about using the drill to groove though. So I guess people are having problems.
