Gor for it! It's one of my most favorite thing's to do....except for building them from scratch. As far as "souping" them up try over clocking the cpu.(Do so with care as i have toasted a couple along the way) :shiner:

Sorry it took me so long to reply. :( I have never used a E-machine before. What's your opinion on the one you have? I have heard good thing's about them. But have never had the chance to use one.

Strange is our Situation here on earth. Each of us comes for a short visit, not knowing why. Yet somehow seeming to divine purpose. From the standpoint of daily life however, there is one thing we know...
That man is here for the sake of his fellow men, above all for those upon whose smile and well being our own happiness depends.
And also for those countless unknown souls with whose fate we are connected by a bond of sympathy. Many times a day I realize how much my own Outer and inner being is built upon the labor of my fellow men and women, both living and dead, and how earnestly I must exert myself in order to Give in return as much as I have recieved.

I tested mine again just for kicks:

    ** Speed 1524(down)/290(up) kbps **
(At least 30 times faster than a 56k modem)
    Finish.

Ouch, does that include your line rental for the phone or is it just the cable connection...
I am having serious thoughts about getting adsl here but thats going to be £25.00 to £30.00 a month instead of the £15.00 i pay for 24/7 56k dialup.... but we than have £12.00 a month for the line rental as well...
    and its only 512/256 max....

I'm paying $39.00/mo for the high speed Internet cable service. I think with the current exchange rates that comes out to about £5, right? ;)

    JohnR,
Actually you don't use a phone line like a DSL modem. It's done with a coaxil cable and as far as i know there is no "upfront" line rental. But they probably get that from me anyway in the monthly fee.

So my only way forward is adsl.... Just got to purswade the mrs that its worth while :hammer: and that aint going to be easy as she say i spend far to much time on the puter as it is.....

Nothing to shabby about DSL at all in fact when i first decided to dump my 56k modem i went for DSL but it was not in my area.........(it still isn't).Go for it...just think with such a fast connect speed your time on line will be cut by more than 3/4...how's that for persuasion...hint..hint.

Running a Dell Inspiron with 1 Gig pentium and 256 MB RAM using the built in 56K modem.

It runs on Windows XP which gives you a small dialog next to the little connected icon when you connect telling you the connection speed- it ranges from 37.5 to 40kb, I'm assuming this is down load rather than upload speed!! Not sure how accurate it is.

How is the US for broadband- the UK is a goddam shambles because British Telecom have monopoly on exchange hardware and are charging the earth for third party suppliers to access their network. This is facilitating the biggest technological farce in the history of telecommunications.

If BT were a small country we would have invaded, killed it's leader and imposed our religion on it by now. Twice.
