You didn't have Mars as an option so I just put down where I currently reside. LOL!! I am originally from New Jersey, but currently live in TN. Culture shocked!!! From scrapple and eggs to biscuits and gravy!!

Steph"still trying to figure out how I got here"D

    Wink

Jenny, Scrapple is exactly what the name implies...only tastier!! It is basically left over pig!!LOL!! They grind it down (sort of like sausage) and compress it into some sort of loaf type thing cut it down and fry it up UMM UMMM!!! I think I remember Pete saying something about scrapple if I am not mistaken. Belive me no one here has ever heard of it unless they are from North East. Where did you go to high school in NJ? I am originally from Vineland. I tell everyone VHS was like the movie "Lean on Me". I didn't even realize I went to a bad school until I moved here. I just thought it was normal. It was just a good thing I survived!!

Scrapple always scared me. I know Pork's the other white meat but meat shouldn't have a gray and beige tinge to it. It also has that weird texture.

Spam and Sizzle Lean are two more I don't understand. They comes across as a ham and bacon wanna be's. Why not just buy ham or bacon?

Wait a minute ... is this conversation taking place in the International Forum?

To stay with the theme, our non-US members now have to post their own national weird food products. We know you know what Spam is thanks to Monty Python. One of you can start with explaining the appeal behind hagas ...

    Unhappy Unrelated to Post

This is unrelated to the original post, but I wanted to share this since we had veered into the food realm.

Have you ever read the ingredients for Scrapple and Vienna Sausages?

True, Scrapple is pig parts, but it is the parts left after you remove the chops, hams, butt roasts, and all the pieces you see in the grocery. What does that leave????? Lips, legs, and wouldn't be surprised if there were some innerds (would account for the color comments)! My father (may he rest in peace) ate that stuff that looked like "hurl in gelatin" every day of his life.

Thanks for bringing back the graphic!:drop:

I still think Black Pudding is the most horrid. As John mentioned, it's a kind of sausage made out of congealed blood. It has white bits in that are blobs of fat. And Haggis is sheep's stomach, but I've never had that.

So what is for dinner guys?? With all this yummy talk about all this disgusting food I am ready to cook up some dinner!!LOL!! Yes some of the ingredients of this stuff would definatley make you puke. I used to work in a German deli (before I got into the wonderful world of optical) and my goodness some of the stuff in there would make me so sick. Headcheese?? That has to be the most gross thing I have ever seen and beer cheese has got to be the worst thing I have ever smelled (with the exception of one of my patients HAHAHAHA!!)

    Bon Appetite!

    John,

Did you fail biology at school, or was it english?:p

    The spelling is......Kangaroo, Koala! :hammer:

A meat pie is supposed to be made from beef traditionally, but you can get them in almost any flavour imaginable.

The problem is that the cheaply made ones sometimes have been known to contain pieces of something not recognisable as beef, or if they are, I don't want to know what part of the cow!

    It could have been worse!

John could have called them "Seppo's"!

For those who are scratching their heads..........Rhyming slang-

Septic Tanks- Yanks, or Seppo's for short.

Now does everyone know what a septic tank is?

John, not only did we buy it but we cloned it. We have created the Daytime Weakest Link starring this fellow who looks just like the woman who does the night time show.

    Big Smile haggis

    :drop: HAGGIS

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    1 C liver 1 C heart
    1 C lung (or 1lb lamb) 2 C chopped onion
    2 C steel-cut oats 2 t salt
    2 T black pepper 1 t nutmeg
    3/4 C oil 3 T lemon juice
    2 C stock

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Cover the raw organ meats with cold water. Boil for 1 hour. Drain, keeping the stock. Cool, then coarsely chop the meat. Refrigerate the stock and discard any fat. Put liver and heart in a small Reynolds Oven Cooking Bag. Add onions, oats, and other dry ingredients. Mix well. If using lamb, break into warmed stock. Bring to a slow boil for 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Add lemon juice and oil to lamb/stock mixture. Add to bag and mix well. Close off the bag allowing 4" for expansion. Pierce top of bag with a knife. Immerse in a large pot with a plate or rack on the bottom. Add water until almost covers the bag. Maintain a slow boil for 1-1/2 hours, add hot water as necessary.

now you can try it for your self.

It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. For if, by ill luck, people understood each other, they would never agree.

What is wrong here, Black puddin ranks up there with beef in my opinion. All It is, is pinhead oatmeal, spices and pigs blood. It makes a welcome addition to my full Irish breakfast.:hammer:

I have seen that most americans are afraid of it but I am dissapointed in you brits.

Had Hagas once at a B/B in Belfast. My friend and I were showing our wives that it was completely harmless. My friend and I spent the next 4 days w/ food poisoning. Of course, it could have been caused by anything, but I'll never eat anything from that animal again.
