Overheard in the bathroom at nearby optical school

No need to describe who was where when this was said.

Person #1: That guy was talking about some stuff called zyl.
Person #2: Must be some stuff the old guys used.
Person #1: Yeh . . . he said plastic is comming back.
Person #2: He's got to be kidding. What a joke! Nobody wants plastic.
Person #1: I'll bet he means plastic and zyl are the same.
Person #2: Must be . . . I think thats what that box with the sand is for.
Person #1: What a joke. That's so gross.
Person #2: Yeh, but did you see the frame that chick is wearing on CNN?
Person #1: Yeh . . . I heard Calvin Klein started a brand new look with plastic.
    Person #2: Yeh . . . but its a fad . . . that look will never catch on.

    Sheesh . . . . am I THAT old?

Life used to be so simple, Zyl or Optyl. Then CFG had to come along and everyone wanted lightwieght, now everything is polyamawhatchamacallit. Maybe we are all getting old. ;)

I still remember the day I found out that you couldn't heat those Logo frames as long as a zyl frame. It shrunk three eyesizes in about 3 seconds. So what do I do? I get another one. I get distracted and leave the salt pan unattended for about 5 seconds. I ended up with something that resembled a crazy straw. After the LO stopped busting his gut laughing at me I was taught the meaning of "cold snap." I later learned that even if you don't heat the frame, if a high plus lens with a knife edge is edged too large it has the ability to slit the eyewire of the same such frame in two halves, front and back.
