    Mastergauge for lensmeter calibration. Any tips?

    Help wanted.

    I am searching for a rare specimen in ophtalmic equipment. Mastergauges for lensmeter calibration.
    Since I work in an ISO9001 certified lens manufacturer, I am in need to calibrate lenmeters.
    The Buerton Mastergauge is a very fine instrument, but is very rare.
    Anyone there has one for sale?

    Thaks you in advence

    Fernando

    Could you elaborate on how you use a set of lenses to calibrate the lensometer? I'm curious.

    I've never calibrated a lensometer before. Could you look at the side the patients look in and hold a ruler to the vertical lines you move to line up with the pupils?

    To make your own set of calibration lenses, you 1st need access to a known calibrated lesometer. The rest is easy. All you need is 3 glass lenses (most manual lensometers/vertometers/Marco's are to be calibrated in 1.523)

    * 1 lens +6.00
    * 1 lens -6.00
    * 1 lens Plano -2.50 x 180 edged flat on one side

    Spot up accurately the sph lenses. Note their exact power (i.e. +6.06, -6.12) and O.C. position. Use indelible ink on the concave to mark OC and note exact power.

    Flat edge the cyl lens so as to check the lensometer table alignment, and spot it up. Note the exact axis and power. ( i.e. -.12 -2.37 x 178)

    This isn't a GaugeMaster, but almost as good.

    I did basically what Optical did, except I also added a 5^ prism to the set.

    I think you're asking about how to calibrate a Pupilometer. What you just suggested sounds fine to me. Also, you could manually take a PD with a ruler, then compare it to what you get in your pupilometer. Is it a digital model? There may be a way to calibrate it, built in my the manufacturer.

    The original Gaugemaster was made by Younger Optical, they apparently discontinued manufacturing this product. A copy was imported by R H Burton Co. Burton and their suppler of the copy are both out of business.
