Doctor selling his used AIT edger to me

He's selling his edger (3 years old), and I offered to purchase it.. so he asked me to make an offer. It's an AIT Maxima/Combimax in good condition.

What do these go for in the used market? What would you pay for it?

They go for about $25k new. Does it come with the tracer and everything?

I'd say $10k would be fair market. I'd give him $7,500.

I've got one, and I also have an Optronics 7E. The 7E has more bells and whistles, and cost more, but I have to say that the Combimax is the easiest edger to use. Training someone on it is a breeze, and they are pretty predictable. I like the blocking on it better than the 7E also, as it seems to hold the lens more firmly in place.

    Good luck...

Johns, this is what's being offered... should be enough to do everything. What do you think after looking at the pics? Dont know much about these systems at all.

    Toby,

Sorry...I'm not seeing the photos anywhere. In your PM, you said that the tracer was separate from the edger. That's normal. (I think)

I'm assuming they haven't made any major changes in them. I got mine over 12 years ago, and they didn't look that different at the shows. I'm sure they have updated them a bit, but I was assuming the basic shape and operation was the same.

You know what Toby...I might be way off base here on my estimate.

I just cruised E-bay for a few minutes, and found a handfull of Santinellis for under $6k.

I guess I didn't factor in how bad the economy is in some places. I'm in Ohio, and we are in the middle of an economic boom!;) (As in "boom/crash/bang")

Strongly suggest you have it examined by a technician. If it took a surge hard enough to wipe its programming, it's hard to say what damage it might have suffered. It needs a good diagnostic. I would also suggest you talk to an electrician about appropriate surge protection for the future. Lightning goes indeed strike twice.
