    Just thinking about...

Would like our office to be a collection of goods to be sent to the troops. Could get some mileage out of the publicity and some friends and relatives will benefit from the "Stuff" (I'm sending Moon Pies!, I love em!) Any way I am concerned that the postage might be over my head. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can cut postage cost. Hoping to collect $ in a jar to cover it. Just fearful that I might be biting off more than I can chew. Please advise.

Contact the Civilian Liason at either Fort McCoy or Volk Feild (both in Wisconsin) they can help.

    Good for you!

USPS has flat rate boxes specifially for APO/FPO. it's $11.95 and the box is 12x12x6. pack that baby FULL!

My husband and I have participated in SoldierAngels.com as well as supporting his friend who is National Guard (currently in afghanistan). Here's soem things I know they like...

dark washcloth/bandanas (used for everything from cleaning to covering your face in a sand storm)
powdred drink mixes - either with sugar added already or sugar free
little packets of sauces - think Taco Bell, ketchup, salt n pepper arbys stuff. Small bottles of Tabasco
protein bars (preferably non chocolate as those melt)
Jerky - packaged, not homemade. Especially if you're sending this to strangers.
    gum, hard candy
    lip balm
    eye drops
cheap sunglasss (non shiny frames, non-mirrored lenses)
air freshners (think the little pine trees)
    magazines
cards to send home to family (if your kid has a b-day while you're in the desert, you can't run out to Hallmark)
    Playing cards
    Batteries - AA, AAA
    deoderant
    sun screen - high SPF
As the weather gets cooler, think packets of hot chocolate, terapacks of chili, cupasoup, etc.

Just remember...pack scented things in freezer-type ziploc bags. Because of the heat and stuff while in transit, the smells can transfer. And you don't want your moonpies tasting like Old Spice.

Hubby and I aren't wealthy in terms of money but we see this as our duty to support those putting their butts on the line for our country. Plus, the way I get deals when I shop, it doesn't hit is too bad!

Oh yeah, before I forget...if you don't have a tropp that you'll be specifically shipping to, check out http://www.soldiersangels.com contact them and they'll hook you up with someone in need. As a rule, a non-specific adressed package will either be returned or disposed of.
