Trivex has all 3: excellent optics, strength, and lightweight qualities

Trivex is better and here's why:

The reason that poly is impact resistent is the inherent softness of the material. It is hard coated on the front and the back, but the center is still soft and easily mallebale. Therefore, when poly is drilled and something is inserted into the hole, such as a post or screw, it has a tendency to wear away the material in the middle resulting in larger holes that cannot hold the frame as tightly as necessary and/or stress cracks. A way to help prevent this problem, if you MUST use poly, is to use washers to help cushion the contact between the frame and lens (which is probably why Barry doesn't have many problems with Poly). This is an important step and shouldn't be skipped.

Although I despise Poly, another way to stave off the inevitable cracking was to dip a toothpick in baby oil and insert in the drill hole to lubricate the joint.
    Trivex Rules!

Crown Glass is still the Best optical medium, unfortunately
ours is a Litigious society, hence no more Glass. :shiner:

Trivex works the best but poly does work and is much more profitable.

    re: Trivex

With Trivex, I don't have to worry at all about the lenses cracking in a rimless -- grooved or drilled -- mounting. I'll sell poly (lower price) in those mountings, but I recommend Trivex and note "declined Trivex" on the invoice.

That said, I don't have many problems with poly. I just don't have any with Trivex.

Which one would hold up better if they spent all night soaking in a glass of someone's dark home brew??

And how about the inevitable "splash" of subsequent vomitus??

    Hmmmm?? :hammer:

My vote is for trivex....I do lots of drill mounts and have no (that's NO) problems with trivex....poly on the other hand is questionable at best...believe me>go with trivex. Gary:D

    Interesting situation!

Is that "dark home brew" an ale or a lager?

It makes all the difference in the world!

    Fezz,

    He is talking ales here.

Not everyone can afford to have a lagering cellar like you do.

Lets be considerate of the less fortunate on the board.
A lack of planning on your part DOES NOT constitute an emergency on mine!
