Most of the original article seems OK to me - it says that MD's sometimes order unnecessary field tests, but it also says that OTC readers aren't accurate, that modern PAL's are better, that brick-and-mortar is better than on-line. It is less "trashy" than the follow-up article, IMHO.
Is AOL even relevant anymore?

I see no problem with the article.
It seemed to be more "pro" professional, than those companies that claim to be our partner.
Also, it told the truth about the internet, unlike our "partners".
