California Association of Dispensing Opticians Teams with Carl Zeiss Vision and CSC Labs for Optician Education

San Diego, CA (June 9, 2009) – On May 17, the California Association of Dispensing Opticians (CADO) held its inaugural “Opticians in May” education day in Pleasanton, CA.

The event was co-sponsored by Carl Zeiss Vision and CSC Labs of Watsonville, CA. Over 60 opticians from the San Francisco Bay Area attended, receiving six hours of continuing education. Two hours were presented by Mark Cloer, Director of the University of Mississippi’s contact lens service and a well-known NCLE speaker. Four hours of ABO were presented by Jeff Hopkins, Carl Zeiss Vision’s Senior Manager, Professional Relations.

“The response to the meeting was very encouraging,” said CADO President John Gumm. “Since we haven’t had an education meeting in this area before, we were concerned about how many opticians would attend. In fact, we had a large, enthusiastic audience, and many people said they would like to attend future events. We’re looking forward to holding our second annual Opticians in May on Sunday, May 9, 2010, in Pleasanton, CA.”

“I was happy to see so many opticians willing to give up a weekend day to learn about new technology, sharpen their skills, and keep their certification up to date,” said Jeff Hopkins. “Carl Zeiss Vision recognizes that our success depends in large part on the knowledge and skill of professional dispensing opticians. It was a pleasure to spend a day with this group.”

About the California Association of Dispensing Opticians (CADO)

CADO was formed in 1939 to promote legislation that would continue the existence of free-choice opticianry through licensing legislation. Today, the organization continues to defend the rights of licensed opticians, while promoting professional standards and advancing the quality of ophthalmic dispensing services in California.
