Nassau has a shore brand 1.74 with ARC for insane pricing, BUT availability is terrible. :hammer:

They seemed to underestimate demand, so until they get that straight, I avoid them as a source for 1.74.

Hoya 1.7 from U.S. optical is a 1 day process. 1.74 Accolade is 1 week. any other freeform pal with A.R. is 1 day also.

of course it is. it's 0.04 better. :p

jameselex, when you say surfaced do you mean sv or pal? uniques come in a 1.74 now.

i've tried surfacing some 1.74, but i'm still trying to figure out the best way to run them. i'd like to surface them thin, but if i do it at around 1 mm it pimples in the curing unit. (ultra optics mini ii system) a little more trouble shooting and i think it'll be all good. tooling also needs to be really accurate since it's such a high index.

CT on 1.70 is thinner than 1.74 in -4.00 to -8.00

ET on 1.70 is thinner than 1.74 in rx's at -7.75 and equal to at higher powers - won't warp as easily during insertion if you edge the lens tooo large....

    Higher Abbe

    Lighter weight

Better tensile strength - can be drilled

Coffee Joe: Are you able to pass drop ball at that thickness?

    1.74 surfaced

I was about 1.74 single vision surfaced. It really takes time here. as for is it better than 1.70, We don't have many people supplying 1.70. Theoratically it should be thinner if everything else is same, shouldn't it?

The thickness won't be that much different. Check with Tokai or Hoya for a lab up there that handles this material.

There shouldn't be much difference for 0.04 index, is there a lot on the price?

you may find that 1.70 is a bit less expensive.

haven't tried yet, but at the moment i doubt it. when i was inspecting one of the "pimpled" lenses my finger went through the center. i was pressing it fairly hard but sill. :shiner: i'm thinking we may not bother with it since the extra ct will make it thicker than 1.70.

Stock Shore brand 1.74 from Nassau is insanely cheap, as in 1/2 the price of other 1.74 stock lenses from them. I wish 1.70 was as readily available in stock lenses as 1.67, it would be great to work with, especially with it's aforementioned qualities...

    1.74

Pixel is releasing the Behold lens soon. Trivex bonded to 1.67, min CT is 0.85mm, best of 2 materials making a lens that's 3 times as good. Trivex adds impact resistance and 1.67 is easier to surface and is more rigid so warpage is reduced. Clear and Transitions. Calobar B will be released when hell freezes
