I work in a gerber lab and I'm looking for reccomendinations on running a +12 with 14 base in .. On a sgx generator .. Anyone know a good lens to run this with?

HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa---HaHaHaHaHa.... umm, I mean...
Try Excel- they have several extra-thick blanks available. My guess is, you're gonna have to block some or all of the prism in if you can. That's a toughie- the kind I like, they keep the job interesting.

Even if you can find thick enough blank Sgx will not cut it!
Is Eyesize 59mm with 5 in dec?![]()
Call Epic Labs and....................Faaagetabouuuuuttit!
hipoptical and LENNY got a good poitn the SGX isn't gonna want to cut that much prism, you'll have to block it up with the prism and use the SGX to cut as little prism into it as possible to get it to work.
Hey man these are the jobs that seperate the men from the boy's you can't send it out. Plus you know the guy who sold it didn't charge any over diopter or custom prism charges so the only way to make any money on this job is gonna be by making it in house (am I jaded or what). :DOriginally Posted by Fezz

Well we also have a 108 generator that needs coolant .. But I'm half tempted to turn the job down. Or I will tell the doctor that I'll put as much prism In as the sgx allows. My reaction was the same as yours when the doctor asked me about it . Seriously?
Fresnel?

We are talking about a SV?
If so, you can practically do that with a small frame to reduce inset and about 12mm extra decentration.
Not exactly impossibe to grind, but may be impossible to mount :D
I think the SG series can generate up to around 10 diopters. If this is a SV and a +12.00 diopter Rx (and I'd use a 12 base lens on this as well), then you can calculate the extra diameter needed to induce the remaining 4 diopters of prism.
If a bifocal, then off-center blocking can produce some (modified inset) before generating.

You could always hook bungee cords in the patient's eyeballs to bring them in line, LOL. As for the +12....their eyes are gonna be swimming!
But seriously folks, http://www.thelensguru.com/
You didn't mention if this was a single lens or a pair. If it's one lens only, talk to the doc about splitting the prism. You can easily cut 7 in each, assuming this is one where splitting will work.

TWO thoughts, 1) call the doctor and see if the prism can be divided btwn both eyes (commom practice), if no
2)...fresnell press on's..........NOT my favorite by far, but an option....
I/we don't have the full Rx at hand obviously, so if not an option, you definately have a challenge!
...lastly, as said above if Rx is too challenging for your equipment...outsource to diff lab or politely reject the order--be careful as to not loose confidence in your accounts.
or you can send the patient to me and will process it myself. 3176364448
Well, turns out that 14 D. was split between two eyes. CRAZY! No way in hell that we could run this with what we have. Secondly, turns out he was a balance in his left eye so this did away with the need for the prism according to the doctor. So simply ran a 12 base poly knocked a "whopping" one millimeter off of thickness. Luckily the ED was a 57mm readers frame. The RX was for a man to read his bank statements at 6 inches from his face.
Poly? Why?

I quick phone call solves alot...
It's amazing have access to the full records in this field. you can see chart noted for 20/30 best VA, or glaucoma, ARMD, Diabetes, etc......
and if the pt picks up new Rx having a any concern (forgetting what the Doc told them days before)
you can help immediately and ease any worries.
I feel for those optician's out there working in optical only chains. It's like working in the dark. I've been there...very frustrating!!!!!!
assembly line and kick 'em out the door.
So, for any Doc's reading this. little notes on the Glasses Rx like "best Corrected VA 20/xx" is a HUGE HELP to us optician's. We may not have pt's full hx...and that's all well. But that is just enough to trigger the pt. memory of what the doc said...."oh yea...." is usually the response.
we Can at least save you + your staff a lot of repetitive calls
This man must have poly! You can never tell when one of those bank statment pages might attack and smash that lens right off his face. He must have the protection of Poly to save him from all the perils that hurt people while checking thier bank statments. Shoot he might collapse in shock and fall to the floor on his glasses. Never can tell he might check his bank statements 6 inches from his eye while standing up!
And every monocular patient needs prism every doctor knows this an prescribes it for all of them!
