    Costco Zeiss partnered???

The other office just had someone come in with a written quote from Costco for a Zeiss FT-28. Did I miss something or...

Is an over zealous optician looking to impress a customer?

Did Costco partner with Zeiss so it behooves them to mention Zeiss whenever possible?

Have you had this happen in your office?

I don't see the problem with listing Zeiss or Nikon, etc. Especially if they have more than one FT, which they probably do. That way when/if the patient returns and another optician helps them, they know the patient was quoted the Zeiss and not the no-name low end lens. And also the patient should be able to compare apples to apples when shopping.
So, what is wrong with that? I didn't get it.

To my knowledge and according to the current Frames Data lens availability book there is no such thing as a Zeiss FT-28 of any material. It's a generic lens.

It would only make sense to say it's a Zeiss flat top if Costco had partnered with Zeiss labs to promote the brand name.

Well, they do have them available through their Sola or AO divisions.

Arrow This Thread belongs in the Professional section!

We probably don't want to advertise the Costco price for the public. That is what we pay for the lenses uncut after discount.

While I am sure that there are some FT lenses out there that are too junky to justify thier existance... Can anyone, patient, optician, or whatever tell any difference in any but the above mentioned in quality, or vision in one FT-28 from another FT-28? And before anyone brings it up I am speaking of plastic lenses only?
I doubt that many of them have any identifying marks on them for that matter.

Chip........I am with you. For sure no identifying marks on them as they are being sold by any corporation who can get an order from a large quantity purchaser for lenses. Purely not to upset the regular market customers.

I would not be surprised if the "zeiss" lens were actually a.o. or sola molds. As an ex Zeiss lens rep, zeiss did not distribute a flat top, it did however they did make a curve top, that was a sweet lens.

I am certain that Zeiss does carry a FT 28 in poly and it's aspheric. I sell them periodically. I'm not sure if it's available in other materials.
