    +12 hyperope Seiko 1.67 aspheric VS norlite 1.74 non-aspheric?

in a +9.50sph +2cyl what would be the best lens for consmetic appearance?

patient is currently on seiko 1.67 aspheric but wanting to try 1.74 norlite high-plus NON-aspheric.

would the higher refractive index produce a nicer looking lens even without asphericity?

My choice would be the 1.67 Aspheric , preferably with a small frame . I would ask for knife edge surfacing .

    Confused

I think Hoya has a product 1.74cr9wmc+biaspheric, but not very sure about if they have hyperope ? You can check with your rep.

I'm assuming this is a SV job and not a bi/tri/multifocal?

Small, roundish frame will offer the best lens cosmetics, but of course as you know will also need to fit well with the patient's face...and probably style preferences as well. :)

i'm aware that frame choice is the most important factor....but what i'm wondering is how much of a deal is it loosing the aspheric lens design in 1,67 and moving to a spherical with higher index (1.74 norlite).

on paper the 1.74 would be thinner but loosing the flatter back surface of the aspheric and reduced magnification of patients eye might make this a backwards step.

opinions? has anyone seen such a comparison on a high + case? i'm curious from a technical point of view, not just this one case.

Can they even do the 1.74 in such a high plus? At that power your back curves are going to be very very flat, and if the base curve is not steep enough, your lab might have to go biconvex, which should be avoided.
The ABBE of both the 1.67 and 1,74 is very poor, but since he's already wearing it, he might not notice how much better vision he could have with the 1.70 index.
You might want to ask him this question: Do you want the thinnest lens or do you want the best vision? Pick one, can't have both.
