You should do a little search on these forums and look up a fellow member, Ian Jordan.

    filters - differences

Overlays have so many things wrong with them at a professional level that I would consider them unacceptable even bearing in mind that they can help some children

Irlen uses essentially a trial and error method to choose (broadband) filter. These are usually worn constantly. There are a number of other systems which are similar.

The techniques we have developed (with UK governement assistance) use cone cell and ganglion cell physiological responses to hue saturation and brightness. We work in 3D colour space to determine optimum performance parameters of the visual system (to CIE standards - the internationally accepted standards) convolve for metamerism for ambient lighting, and from this can determine optimum filters. It is extremely complex - and most optical professionals have limited knowledge.
Filters have enormous effects - we have just completed a clinical trial in UK medical school - paper will be published soon.
For a basic background you can get a DVD which I made in association with Coventry University or download a relatively old book on my practice website www.jordanseyes.com

I am presenting a paper (on the effects of filters in prosopagnosia) in the US 24 July (in country 22 - 25) at the ASA national conference near Chigao - if optical professionals in area want a "mind blowing"lecture, happy to oblige

Pink or cruxite lenses are actually preferred by republicans whilst they may be annoyed by the presence of blue tints.
