    Congratulations !!!!!!!.

Years ago I had an Advanced class license, but the last few years it's been all SWL'ing. I do have a grandaughter that is getting interested and may join her in studying for another ticket.

I was a ditty bopper in Japan and Nam. I understand you don't have to pass morse code requirements to get your ham license anymore. Is this true?

    radio

yes it is true, and i believe most unfortunate, as we are now seeing a whole lot more of ham radio operators that are not really interested in ham radio as much as they should be.

having a ham radio license got me in the USN as a three striper, instead of recruit, from there on you can guess who got to instruct cw

The Tech and Extra exams weren't bad at all just needed common sense and a little bit of an understanding of electonics ... the Extra, however, yikes! Will be giving that one another shot this week.

I have been avoiding HAM since the news stories about Swine Flu.

    :D

IN all seriousness, this has always fascinated me and I do hope to take it up one day.

    Passed the Extra exam, phew.

    Nightrain,

It is interesting. Worth taking up even if you are shy about actually speaking with someone by voice because there is a ton of activity using digital modes that allow you to communicate using your PC to transmit text via data transmissions.

Alas, it is one of those things that life has pushed into a corner. Got my ticket around age 15, but I can't say I've pulled out a radio for the past 2 years.
