Come to the ROATx convention in San Antonio May 2nd through 3rd. We'll have a refraction "crash course" that will be hands on.

Refractions, performed by individuals w/o proper and complete certification of skills accomplishment, are, IMHO, a *crash* waiting to happen for the next optician to fulfill their eyewear needs.

I feel I speak from expereince, here. *tech* refractions, here on LI, are, well... not good!

Yes she does and she is very good at it. She would like me to have some reference materials to compliment her teaching.

PM me an address and I can get you some stuff. In our neck of the woods techs are just as good at refractions if they apply themselves. Your Doctor is starting out right by asking you to have reference material handy since theory as well as hands on is going to be your best route to proficiency. I am confident she will be a good teacher just knowing she will require you to have a good back ground in theory.

Use at your own risk, but if you scare the patients away... promise to refer them to me, I'm only 30 minutes away from G'Ville :p

I'd have to say, I usually see the opposite where most doctors are willing to teach and most opticians have a frame stylist mindest and dont care to learn anything beyond thier job description.

[lawyer font] That does of course exclude the optiboard crew who come here everyday to learn. [/end lawyer font]

I know those Opticians... sadly. But right now I have a Dr. who is terrified any of his staff would learn anything because he might have to pay them more. Even though I pay for most of my CE classes myself I have to pull teeth to get time off for them even.
