I saw the other day in my lens id book that Canada has a 1.8 Hi-Index Varilux Comfortlens. :idea: So is there anybody North of the border that would be willing to order me a pair for myself and send then down to me uncut........;). Would that be illegal????? just wandering. Somebody help out a fellow optician

Actually it is not illegal if it comes from a FDA registered company and you supply your Federal tax ID number. However I doubt that any Canadian optical lab has a FDA manufacturers registration.

However if they are mailed in a Jiffy bag as samples at no charge, it will not even go through customs.

You can get the Shamir Genesis in index 1,8 as well, and I can guarantee customer satisfaction.

Besides, the Canadian Border Patrol and the FDA both know that you are gonna grind them lenses to powder, disolve it and sell it to a million children just waiting to shoot it into thier veins. It's a damn pair of eyeglasses. Do you really think anone cares. It's not a machine gun, it's not heroin.
Years ago I had some fairly affluent contact lens fitters flying back from Canada with suitcases full of enzymatic cleaner for soft contacts. Our FDA had not decided we were mature enough for it in this country yet.

No one cared.

Yes, of course you can take a suit case of stuff and not get cought.

We ship a lot of products to the US, have to be registyered with the FDA and so are the products. Furthermore we have to add every customers Federal Tax ID number on every invoice. They check every number if it corresponds with the address. If one parcel has a wrong number the whole shipment is held up until the correct number has been supplied.

While know the Canadians been kinda intractable on this lately, but a traveler carrying one pistol for personal protection, is quite different than a train car full of Thompson's being slipped to the terrorist underground.
