    Hakim

Anyone else get the giant glossy full coloured tribute to him today? I was amazed by how humble he is. :bbg:

We got 2 with our ICS shipment. Not sure why. You have to see it to believe it.

It's a full sized magazine. Has to be at least 50 pages celebrating 40 years of business.

Magazine is at work and no scanner here. Someone is bound to. I wonder if they were sent to all the opticals within walking distance of Hakim?

You know, I have seen Shoppers, Lenscrafters, Wal-Mart, Sears, ect, but no one comes close to the junk he has. I swear, the average life for one of his frames has to be 4 months.

Sir should be capitalised, it's an official title.

Anyway, I just want to see what this guy looks like before I start not liking him.

It's the Karim Hakim Show!!! This guy will do anything for attention. He used to stick his own mug, kids and family members as models on his giant posters in his stores for two reasons...

    1. To promote himself and his family to which they couldn't care less.

    2. He didn't have to pay them.

He hits a 10 on the fromage scale.

I'm really surprised he never developed his own TV show on CBC in Canada or sponsored the 'Hakim' hockey night in Canada. Thank God Molsons and Labatts had more money and better looking 'paid' models. :)

Hey I guy like him could always buy The Canadains Hockey Team (now for sale) move it to Toronto and call it The Hakim Hawks. The players ,instead of boozing with the russian mob members could drink and be merry on his yacht.

What does that have to do with brochures in the mail or the success of his business marketing ?

I was around when he opened his optical lab and then 1st store on Young Street in Toronto.
He's a self-made man... who grew one (1) dispensary to over 144 in 35 years? First big-time Canadian eyewear discounter, who went to Italy to
made deals for his Hakim brand of frames (this was before China was a force in frames).
Sells many low-end Hakim frames, so what? Many of you buy low-end Chinese frames and again, so what?

Kind of miffed that I wasn't sent his 'magazine', so I also hope to see at least one (1) page published here on OptiBoard.:D

I used to be the l'Amy distributor in Canada for 20 years and sold Hakim all the discontinued frames for a fraction of the original selling price. So did all the other quality frame wholesalers. If he still does it the old way he has top quality frames a bit out dated but still top quality which might last a bit longer than 4 month.

Hakim has been a very smart man and has come a long way since he had his little surfacing lab in down town Toronto.

He certainly is business savvy although his ethics have sometimes been questionable. His timing was also key and was fortunate to venture out when he did and be first out of the gate.

This same success in Canada could never be duplicated again in today's business age, not even by Lux.

I disagree with you on that . Great Glasses is a marketing success (not commenting on the legalities ) . Clearly Contacts is a force in the marketplace right now , but most just don't realize how strong they are .

There will always be someone who can do it better and succeed where no one else thought it would be possible .

Precision put together a chain of 29 before selling . Others will follow .

Great Glasses approach can be duplicated to run legally with the same success .

Lux is in the frame manufacturing & vertical integration , mergers and acquisitions business. They grow their sales by buying out distribution . They have not been in the retail "upstart from concept to viability" business . They buy running concepts , they do not create them . It works for them .

Please tell me how Great Glasses' approach could be run legally and just as successfully.
