    New Seiko 1.74?

Any tried the new Seiko 1.74 molomer for drills?

I do a lot of Lindbergs and the notch is a challenge so I was wondering if the new 1.74 will work for the Lindbergs. Have any of you put the new 1.74 in a Lindberg yet?

    From Seiko:
    • New & improved HR-74 heat-resistant resin
    • Suitable for drill mounting
    • Patented, proven MX aspheric design

I saw where they had improved the resin. Is the ABBE on the new formula as pathetic as the old one?

BTW, the pricing on this lens is significantly better than the other stuff out there, too bad the power range drops off around -10.00. Kinda weird power range, since the Pentax 1.67 with AR goes all the way up to a -12.00 with -3.00 cyl or up to -10.00 with up to -4.00 cyl.

I've never had a single problem with any of the Pentax/Seiko AR's either.

It may or may not be a nice material.

But, it is certainly not in the league of stellar materials like Polycarbonate.

    Right, Uilleann?

The problem I've had with *all* 1.74 Stock lenses..

until this Seiko, which I haven't used yet, is that they have a distinct tendency to *craze* in a hot car, from thermoshock, or even from the heat use to bake on an edge coat (which is usually necessary for Powers that are chosen for 1.74 index).

Surfaced 1.74 seesm to be much more forgiving in this regard.

Don't know about Seiko 174 but just did a job in Essilor DRX Full field aspheric 174 High Index SV. 49/19 with 32-29 P.D. Looks absolutely marvelous. Plastic frame came out with no lens overhang beyond the frame. Rx. -11.00 +0.75 x 085 -1.050 +1.50 x 080

That's IT Fezz! You just bought me another beer! And none of that sissy "American Lager" crap either! I want a Belgian Triple - pronto! ;)

The only thing stellar right now is my ability to stand after a particularly rough (but immensely FUN!) St. Paddy's day week...

And there is NO lens currently made, poly, 1.74 or otherwise, that cures hangovers!

Will a Westmalle Triple or maybe a Chimay Cinq Cents due?

Or maybe a quaddrupple is what you need! How about a nice LaTrappe?

I have had much better luck with the Nikon finished lenses than either of Essilors 1.74 varieties (same base material, but different HC and A/R). Not one has ever crazed here.

Yet *every* one of the Nikons I've done ( 3 in total) crazed for me.

    Go figure!?

Yes, its the same base material but each receives a different HC depending on wether its branded Nikon or Esslilor, they get different A/R's. The HC has huge impact on the visuals and durability of the High Index lenses, and the HC Abbe has to match the base material for best results. Its one reason why the first 1.74 Essilors were so swirly, they didn't have the HC perfected for Crizal and used 1.67 HC.

    Same recipe, different side dishes.
