    Confused Joining Eyemed

Our office is going to become an Eyemed provider in the next 30 days. Is anyone willing to share ways to maximze patient benefits in order to make a profit. From what I have been reading all of the plans are deeply discounted making it difficult to profit on eyewear sales.

It depends which plans you're going to be a provider for. I'm a provider for the least terrible eyemed plans and they're not too bad (relatively, of course). I, however, am not a provider for the "Select" plans (I believe that's what they're called). Those are the ones that reimburse as low as $30 for an exam and require massive, massive discounts on materials. I don't know how you'd make any profit on those.

My office participates in all eyemed plans. The discounts are huge so the profits are small. When you add "options" such as AR the discounts are downright ridiculous. Good luck.

    Eyemed plans

We are currently only going to be set up to accept the Access plan and the VSEP plan.

The Eyemed plans that we are contracted for are shrinking by the week. Eventually all Eyemed plans will be exclusive to Luxottica. The ones we do take are abysmal to say the least and we won't be sorry to see them go away altogether. However since you are hopping on that wagon I wish you the best of luck as long as it lasts.

There are a few decent ones.. and in some cases if you at least edge in house, you could make better money than some of the other insurances.

However overall they are HEAVILY discounted. Right now we are reeling from the switchover of a few employers from VSP to Eyemed. In the past they were able to get ANY pal, ANY AR, Transitions, and Poly for 0 dollars. So I put many of these people in Free forms.

However Eyemed now has the plan. IT was told to this employer (large NATIONAL employer) that their plan and VSP's was the same. Forget the fact we took a $25 drop in the reimbursement for exam, the union members all got upset cause they were charging the usual VSP copays on items they previously got for free. So now the plan is edited again to cover Any PAL (and on certain"premium lenses" I can get up to 80% of U&C) and any ARC (once again Avance is 80% U&C compared to $68 for Alize).. the CL benefit dropped from a previous $175 to $125 with no notice. So I still have members griping at me.

I am sure it too will be corrected, since the union contract is valid till the end of this year so they _have_ to provide the same level of benefit. But it scares me what we'll end up with next year.

    Crier oh -no not eyemed

Our practice just applied for EyeMed as well, :hammer:
From the above responses it doesn't sound like much fun or very lucrative.

    When asked....

    "do you take insurance"?

    The answer is NO

I give the same answer for"do you sell contacts".

No money in it, I ain't doing it.

At this point in the economy some money is better than no money. As long as you cover your cost and make some profit. I have heard mentioned on optiboard ,can't remember where, that many of the retailers that take insurance were flourishing compared to those that were not. We do very well with eyemed.

So with Eyemed is it better to sell/offer the pt the high end coatings, materials and frames or is it better to do just the basiscs pruducts?????
I really hate the fact that I just asked that question, its amazing to me how 3rd party ins effects our profession.

Are you offering premium products in order to make your profit and are you cutting jobs in house?

You hit the nail on the head. Just as Davis vision said they would never use anything but independents, they up and buy EyeMasters and offer more "value" thru *their* own opticals.

Why practices feel they must take every insurance out there is beyond me. ( I understand the mentality, just don't agree). They are just feeding the beast so that in can consume them down the road.

As long as practices keep accepting every Specterrible and Vision Suppression Plan out there, you will continue to see a decline in revenue and thus, a decline in quality care.

Yes, I do believe in offering premium products, and typically do unless the pt wants or needs to stick to the basiscs of their plan. No in house edging done here.

Not if Eyemed has any say in it.

Picture yourself as an Eyemed saleslady for a moment. In the HR department of GlobalGreenSprockets, Inc., you have to sell your plan and tell the buyer that their employees must go to the mall?

No, all vision plans want a "mix" of provider types.

If you get your credentialling through
NVA (http://nwvisionassociates.com/) you can take the good Eyemed Plans (Access A-H, and Blue Vision) and NOT take the terrible discount plans.

We do well with Eyemed through NVA.

Well I would think that would be doubly good for luoutofstockia

They could end up getting the companies payments for there insurance and then getting them into there stores.

It would be bad for the private practice. But I am am a humble novice...I may be wrong

For any non std coatings or prem prod you only need to take 20% off. So you can do what is best fot pt and make profit,

    Don't Like Eyemed

Can't stand Eyemed. Never been on it. I saw a friend yesterday who has Eyemed and they will see me out of network and submit the claim for reimbursement to Eyemed. I took a look at his Eyemed Coverage card. As much as Eyemed told its doctors that privet practitioners would be promoted on their website and coverage materials, the back of my buddie's card shaowed large logos for "Lenscrafters", "PearleVision", "Sears Optical", and "Target Optical". The had a logo for "Private Practitioners", but it was in 1/8 point typeset. If you were an uncorrected presbyope (like my friend is), there is NO WAY you would read this !!! :finger::finger::finger::finger::finger::finger::finger::fin ger:
