    Single Vision Digital FreeForm?

Hey lens gurus, what options are available for single vision digitial freeform? I see Shamir has a SV Autograph. What are your thoughts on these and are there any others? I'm a high myope and would like to compare my Essilor 1.74s to some new technology.

I just ordered a -12.75 sph. OU, SV Shamir Auto. I have also used a couple of the Hoya NuLUX EP SV with very good results.

I have a pair of the Nulux EP lenses in 1.7 and love them. I can see clearly from edge to edge on my 54 eye frames. I haven't been able to sweet talk my Shamir rep into letting me try theirs.
A lack of planning on your part DOES NOT constitute an emergency on mine!

Zeiss Individual will have a SV freeform coming out sometime this year.

I agree with Fluffy Bob. Get the 1.70.

Interesting, never heard of Nulux I usually think I know most of the players out there. Perhaps I'll compare those to the Autograph II SV. I'm a -9.50 so I'll give them a good try.

Great idea! Be sure to do the 1.70 index and not the 1.67!

I did *not* like my SV Nulux EP. I loved my autograph II SV.

"Nulux" is Hoyaspeak for aspheric single vision. Nulux EP is a freefrom aspheric SV lens.

I tried the Nulux EP and found absolutely no difference in any way from regular SV lenses. I went back to my anti-fatigue, because my eyes get way less tired in them.

I will be trying Essilor's 360 single vision lens soon. I will provide you an update.

I'm a huge fan of my Nulux EP lenses (I'm a -8.00-1.25/-6.25-1.75) which I've been wearing for a month and a half now. I noticed an increased clarity over my usual Nikon Seemax lenses, even with the exact same Rx.

I have a pair of the Essilor Fusio 1.74 in a silhouette frame. Love the thiness and weight, but not a big fan of the optics.

(For a full time contact lens wearer, I'm a bit of an eyeglass hog. One pair of the Essilor Fusio, 3 pairs of Nikon Seemax, 2 pairs of Nikon 4 and the Nulux EP pair.) I can't get Shamir up here...would love to try them someday...

Shamir mentions a 1.74 Autograph II SV. Our local lab only offers 1.67 it appears. Is the 1.74 available.

Only Essilor can sell 1.74 in the US.

The labs cannot sell you in the US; they can make it and ship to Canada for you, then have it sent back as a repair to avoid duty.

There really is not much difference between a 1.70 and 1.74 when the math is done!
Shamir needs good sperical blanks to surface and the 1.70 is not currently an option.

    Hope it helps.

My sense is that the atoric digitally surfaced SV lens such as the Auto II primarily benefit the patient with higher amounts of Cyl.

Can anyone chime in on whether the optics or edge thickness is appreciably better with a Auto II SV vs an aspheric traditionally surfaced lens in low/no cyl Rx?

Also, at what level of Cyl have you guys found that the patient gets a real wow factor from Auto II or similar lenses?

Finally, I can say that the higher rx higher cyl jobs we have done look AMAZING with much less edge thickness than you would expect. I believe that is due to the fact that the lens does not have to be decentered, since you can surface the back of the lens independently of the optical center of the blank. This is especially noticible in the Auto II attitude for wrap sunglasses.

I got a real wake up call when when we had to do a 8 base in a regular lens (SV) with a moderate rx but a lot of decentration. I knew it would be a bit thick, but it was the WORST looking job I had ever seen for the amount of Rx.
