    Smilie Gotta Love Patients

There was a recent post about the most unique questions asked by patients. A very grumpy patient came in yesterday that completely reminded me of that post and I had to share this. He initially came in because he broke his frame (a 58 eye double bar) and wanted me to order him a new one. He then proceeded to explain that several people told him that large round zyl frames in tortoise were no longer made, that he found some online and told me to order them for him. I asked if he had any information on a specific frame...model, brand, etc and he could not remember. Once I explained that I wasn't able to order a frame without information and that I'd be happy to look through catalogs I had in the office to see if I could find one for him, he pulled out a picture of a frame that he found on ebay and told me to order that frame for him. There wasn't any frame information listed and he expected me to actually go onto ebay and order the frame for him. He couldn't believe I wasn't able to order from ebay. That is definitely the most unique question in the last 8 years of being an optician I've heard. I couldn't help but laugh.

I've been trying to look for a large round zyl frame with at least a 45 b measurement. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Maybe you could find one from Safilo?!?

I tried Safilo...nothing with a large enough B measurement. Or round enough :)

I have actually told people to try ebay. You have a 15 year old frame, I cannot get it for you. Someone on ebay may have it. If you really want that frame, you will deal with the risks.

What gets me are these guys that want the exact same thing. Okay, I understand you want big. I even understand why you may want plastic. But why does it have to be tortoise.

I had a great experience with Berkshire Chase: sold a Harry Potter special to a university advertising professor and he loved it.

    Also check http://www.moscot.com/

I can't tell you how many times I've heard from my colleague: "that isn't made any more". If Tura is still selling the heck out of the 311 and Safilo hasn't discontinued the Team 3900 and Shuron is still in business after 100 years, I sincerely and vocally doubt any such statement. It pays to do your own research unless you just LIKE the status quo.

    Ok here goes

A guy came in on Monday with a super-glued frame that broke and glue all over the lenses. I quoted him for a new frame and lenses. He insisted he just wanted a new frame. Ok, so he paid $150 for a new frame for lenses with glue all over them...... I looked puzzled and said "I would recommend getting new lenses but it's your choice." He of course needed the frame right then and there and of course it wasn't in stock. So we overnighted them for him and today he came in to get them. As I walked out to get his frame so I could hopefully pry the lenses out of the glued frame, he was scraping the lenses with his fingernails trying to get the glue off. I told him that will only scratched the lenses and that super glue is usually permanent. I put the old messed up lenses in the new frame and brought them out. He looked at the lenses and said "they are all scratched and have something all over them." I looked straight at him and said "yeah, that's the glue and your fingernail scratch marks from trying to get it off" He was going to try and say I did it. I didn't even give him the chance. The frames were in a case and in a bag and I was saying "thank you" come back and see us!!! lol He just looked dumbfounded and left......

    Confidence is so powerful!!!

    Shelly:
If you were honest you would have told him Super Glue comes off with Acetone (unless, it's poly then you ruin the lenses anywayO. I take
The superpglue off before mounting the old lenses in the new frame.
I also tell the patient that I will personally beat them if they ever put Super Glue on glasses again.

Chip, even so, you will still see the glue seeped into the lenses.

    I should of mentioned

his lenses were poly with AR so I did not want to even attempt any type of removal or recommend anything. He is crook and figured he could have me put the lenses in the new frame and accuse me of damaging his lenses and get free ones. He underestimated this gal!!!! I wish I could of taken a picture of his face when I literally shewed him away.....lol

    NO super glue

If the lens or lenses have any super glue on them I tell them to go home and remove it.
I do no work on super glue.PEROID
Just another example of how many so called opticians let the customer run the show.:hammer:

The customer is the one with the check book. Most times that translates to " The Boss. "

There is no problem to remove lenses from frame.........sell a new frame and leave left over glue on lenses alone. Using solvents to remove glue will damage lenses unless you use polycarbonate edge polish, but that might dissolve lens too..
