It means a fee per $1,000 sales amount. Usually, optical chains charge both roalty and fee.

I also wonder about the fee category. But it may not belonged to the advertisement cost becuase usually chain HQ share % base at the time of advertisement or promotion activity.

I guess the Roalty is Royalty and represents the amount in %of sales paid to the franchise?
i.e. if you are a franchise holder you must pay your overhead, employees, rent, and whatever out of what's left after the franchisee get's whatever% off the top?

Every franchise agreement is different. The last one I worked for was based on your payments taken in or bank deposits. You paid a percentage of that. Which was better because it represented your actual cash for the month not sales that might not be completed or insurance payments that might come up short.

    Maybe it's Jimmy Hoffa.

This seems like an odd post. Not every store in each chain is a franchise. And from what I know from friends that have Pearle franchises, the percentages quoted are wrong. Most Sterlings and Cohens are not franchised. Not sure we are comparing apples to apples.

Slight correction: most Cohens are franchises now.

Confused What do you think about franchise optical's future?

In spite of some benefits from franchise such as, as they said, buying power, reliablity to customers etc, do you think this business will be brighter?

As far as I heard, the share of indipendent shops is around 57% and that of franchise is around 40%. Also, there has not been remarkable progress in optical franchise due to no real benefits to shop owners considering lots of restriction and heavy roalty, fee and basic guarantee money as well as slow response to changing optical environment.

Do you think that it is true?

I 'd like to listen your opinion respectfully.:)

Jacqui passed the comment in jest. In fact most of us refer to Lux as the evil empire (even those who are customers of the evil empire).
