Heck, I think it's a great plan! They are an angry people because they have never bitten into the delicious, greasy, crisped fat from a cloven hooved animal...who wouldn't be a little cranky and ready to blow themselves up at the drop of a hat? If pork is sin, count me in! I think we need to make up some care packages filled with microwaveable bacon and sampler packs of beer. We'll drop them over Riyadh, Tehran, Kuwait, Islamabad--it'll be awesome! Next thing you know, we'll all be high-5ing each other and getting wasted in their tents, smoking on some opium and watching the camels fight. Everyone will be smiling as they pick out the fatty pieces from their molars, waving signs that say, USA is OK!. Ahhh, I can see it now....

Tell me that would not be cool! :bbg::cheers::p

    I also heard Obama has:

    - Changed the US's official religion to Muslim
    - Pardoned Osama Bin Ladin
    - Made plans to move Lenin's tomb to the Capitol

    The government nationalized the railroads

When has the government EVER given back what it's been given? Didn't work that way with taxes, nor has the Patriot Act been reversed. There's probably a list of things 10 feet long that the government has taken over, when it seemed like a good idea.[/quote]

The government nationalized the railroads and steel mills and coal mines. This was done in both world wars. In 1984 the Illinois Continental bank was nationalized because it was about to fail and was considered too big to allow to go under. Sounds familiar

I hadn't realized that about the railroads and the rest. Why does it not surprise me? Give them an inch, they'll take a mile and run like hell.

Looks like a bunch of right-wing paranoiacs to me.

You still have freedom of religion, just not at government expense, as it was supposed to be. You want to live in a totally religion-governed country? Move to The Vatican.

The astonishing thing about this article - which is actually nothing more than a recital of one of those right-wing fundie emails that gets sent around periodically (I received one last week) - is its facial dishonesty. The language from the bill, quoted in the article, specifies that none of the money appropriated will be used to renovate colleges run by religious organizations (the subject of the section is appropriations to institutions of higher education). While I realize that there are people who do not appreciate the value of maintaining even the thin semblance of a wall of separation between church and state that we have, even they might understand that spending this money in that way would be rather controversial. We'd have to argue about whether any money spent at Liberty University would have to be matched by an expenditure at Union Theological Seminary, lest the government favor one religion over another. Good idea?

In a logical leap that exceeds any possible leap of faith, the provision is characterized as discriminating against Christians, and free speech to boot. The email I received claimed that this section would "ban Bible study"; the cited article claims that it would "ban religious worship."

While I've never met anyone smart enough to actually construct such a logical connection - that is, from "not spending public funds on religious schools" to "banning worship" - I have met people sufficiently stupid - or maybe just sufficiently blinded by the bizarre sense of persecution that permeates the Christian right in this country, of which this article might serve as "Exhibit A".

Impossible! GW Bush pardoned Bin Laden before he left office. You can't give Mr Obama credit for that.

Maybe I am naive. Is your point that it's bad to discriminate against all religion or only Christianity, since that seems to be the only group complaining?

And can you believe my uncle was in a movie named Cottonpickin' Chickenpickers? He was weird.

    How About

Raising the military budget for next year by 21 Billion dollars.( Just reported on Fox and CBS evening news.

I thought he was going to cut military spending to fund social programs.
I guess that income redistribution is going to come from the increased taxes on you and me. Since we all have jobs.

After all he said last night, we all have to sacrifice.

But there are a lot of OD's and MD's that do.

I wonder who will be the first optiboarder to lose their job because of the increased taxes on their employer.

    Only time will tell.

How can you bail out GM and do noting about all the mills in the southeast closing? Answer; the union votes for the democrats mill workers don't. Every week we hear of a mill or furniture plant closing and displacing hundreds. Then another trucking company (no longer has the business from the mill) closing. Who is going to buy those cars? Our mill workers make much less than the autoworkers. I suspect that if they ever do recover they will feel resentment towards buying GM cars.

I guess if you were stupid enough to buy a house you could not afford, or sign a morgage contract with terms you can't afford, you are happy to be saved. I guess since I was wise enough not to buy a house I could not afford, I should be wlling to contribute to the bail out the dumbasses that are not. My house aint much, but it's paid for. I am not ashamed of that.

Again, you hire people with revenue, not profit. So the effect is lowered. Some places may hire an additional person to drop that profit from $265,000 to $249,000 to save taxes.

Also, there will be far more layoffs if the economy does not get better and if the government does not raise revenues to finally control the deficit.

    Huh?:hammer: Again?

So you're telling me that if I'm taking in $100,000 (revenue), but my expenses are $125,000 (-$25,000 profit) that's of no consequence to the equation? What am I missing here? (I'm serious here...I can't believe that I'm the only one missing the point you're trying to make.)

Try to think of it as a real company, and not a government where there is no reason to make ends meet.:finger:
