VEE- What would it take to get you there?

I'm pretty stocked up on frames, have no need of lenses, and can't think of anything I can't live without. I'm considering, for the first time in many years, of sitting this VEE out. At least with Vegas it's 90 degrees out and you can retreat to the pool if the show stinks. With NY, it's bedbugs, cold, higher prices, bad/no parking, and so on.

If you were not planning on going, what incentive could be offered to get you there? Free flight, cheap lodging, free drinks, free frames? Or is there anything that would entice you?

If you are going, I'd love to hear from y'all as well.

If I do go, it'll probably be just stay in Pa, go to the show Friday, and then head back.

Are any of you vendors that usually go, but are not planning on it this year?

    Harry,

Can you be a little more specific?

Do you mean scantily-clad women that look at you like you are the hottest thing since optyl?

I guess that might be why I prefer VEW. Walking through the lobby and the casino on the way to the expo, you not only get the sights as seen at the revolution booth, but they offer you free drinks!

Remember the Diesel girls at the Safilo booth a few years back? Scantily dressed brides one year, and Mash nurses another.

    Revolution pales amateurishly in comparison.

To me VEE is just an excuse to visit NYC. Each year I spend less and less time at the conference itself.

If I had to choose, it would be Vegas every time. First, it is cheaper. Honestly, you can book four days in Vegas, including flight and hotel for around $500 (and that is a decent hotel on the strip). Try getting a Hotel in NYE for that much. It is warmer, there is more to do, you can drink on the streets, it is probably safer, you can drink on the streets, and you can drink on the streets.

I just thought the same and wondering fewer people will make the plan to visit VEE this year. However, there's a Vision Monday news, just came in today, saying VEE pre-registered twice as many attendees than last year, currently 2771! How believable is this?

By the way, any cheaper hotel accommodation to recommend? Need help.

That is the usual hype the put out every year after year. Milan was a lot less busy last year and SILMO was dead.

Vision Expo is no more the big international show it used to be, these days there are optical shows just about every month somewhere around the world. The attendance is from an area of 300 to 400 miles around NewYork.

There are some nice hotel in New Jersey on the river across from the Jacob Javits and further up towards the bridge where you can still get room at around $ 120.00, nice restaurants and if you rent a car you can park it at the Ferry landing, take the Ferry right to the back of the Jacob Javits and its usually a nice ride and you will not have the traffic jam through the Lincoln tunnel.

This will be the major recession VEE and will be interesting to see how it will turn out.

I am thinking of bagging it this year as well. I don't really *NEED* anything. I have little to no patience left for sales BS, and I don't feel like spending the day on my feet!

But, there are quite a few fellow Optiboarders who owe me a few drinks. That alone may be worth the trip!

Brother Johns has an interesting idea for a get together other than VEE. If you click on my name, it should take you to my message board. You can read his ideas, and add ideas, comments or ideas. If you click on his, you will see my response. Maybe we can get something happening here!

For me to go to VEE it would take Free air tickets, FREE cab fare, Free hotel, FREE meals and FREE admission. :D

I like FezzJohns idea, keep me posted :D maybe it could be about the same time so I can get both on one trip.

To get me to go to VEE

    1. FezzJohns pays for my travel. (1st class, non-stop please :D)

    2. Free hotel (4 star), free food ( lobster sounds good), and free drinks ( I'll have what Fezz is having)

    3. Chauffereured limo ( prefferably driven by Salma Hayek)

    4. Convince my doctors to give me a 4th week off this year. (with pay).

    5. Send a great finish person to keep me caught up in my lab. ( that will work n/c)

I'm willing to negotiate ( to an extent). I'm not asking too much, am I?

You want her to DRIVE the limo???????

Don't you think she would be better at pouring the champagne?

Sounds like the trip to NY that my docs have been promising since June (and confirmed several times since) isn't going to happen now.

I should know for sure by the end of March.:bbg:

Try it on my end. First being a Canadian I have to pay 25-30% more for everything due to the US dollar exchange. After listening to the salesman BS I get the normal remark....OH we don't ship to Canada. Anything I buy, for the office, has to be sent back here because my 'exemption at the border" is so low I have no leeway to buy any personal goods. Normally I drive ,because by the time I get up in the morning, take a cab to the airport, register, pass thru customs, get on the plane, fly to New York, get off the plane ,get my luggage, get a cab to the hotel and check in....it ends up being the same amount of time.....and I am not crambed , pushed , shoved or crowed like on the plane.

Next , when I am at the show (and I have been there ,every year, since it started) to see the Galeria stuff, you have to look like a snob and have an appt. Visiting the big three, is a mess of having to sit and look at the frames with a sales rep , who is trying to press for sales.

Going to the VE for me is a chance to"look, evaluate new trends, and make new contacts. I find it's getting more and more difficult and more and more expensive and less fun.

Will I be there this year.....that will be a last minute decision but I am being drawn to try Las Vegas. Never been there and the office pays.

VEE-What would it take to get you there?

    Good question. I keep thinking=commitment!

You see, when I go to VEE and try to do some buying-the companies want a commitment. They want me to commit to buying deep, before offering better prices. But, what are they offering?

I want a company to commit to me! Prove that you NEED my business. Step-up! COMMIT!

Kinda looks like Luxottica gets all the credit, as the site identifies with "luxottica donations".
