I am currently working commercial but am always looking for a way out and into private practice. Does anyone know of any private docs looking in the Nashville or Memphis areas?

I am in the same position but most potential private practice employers laugh at me when I tell them what I make. They say "We'd love to have you but there's no way we can afford to pay you." Anyway, I've found that most OD's and OMD's don't hire licensed opticians because they're not required to by law in most states. That's why I'm still in commercial. I'm not complaining about it because when other places are closing the doors and cutting hours, I'm actually making more money than ever. It's not that I don't like working commercial but I think private practice opticians get a little more respect and don't have to put up with quite as much bit*hing. Good luck in your search.
Yeah I'm not a fan of retail hours, and I agree with you on the whole respect thing. It seems that patients in private practice settings see you as more of a professional instead of someone that is a barrier to them getting what they want which is contacts or glasses when THEY want them and how THEY want them.
Good Luck to you!!!
I live at Ft Knox, KY and have had a hard time finding anything in this area...and very few opportunities in Louisville.
What is meant by working commercial??? And how do I sign up?
