    Good Generic Drill mount "Plugs"

    Hi,
For years now, we've been buying Safilo's Drill rimless "plugs" for generic (non Silhouette) jobs. Although they're a little expensive, I use them because their sizes are consistent and they hold up over time.
If we use the one that come with the cheaper frames, I find the sizes to be inconsistent and the plugs loosen up over time. Silhouette plugs work great for Silhouette frames but are too soft for cheaper generic frames. I guess the barbs are better on Silhouettes.

Now Safilo is telling me that they are no longer going to sell their sleeves in bulk. Has anyone found a supplier of consistent and durable generic plugs?

    Thanks,
    Ed

Summit optical supply. A division of Modern Optical. Don't judge the compression bushings based on the quality of the frames. These are top notch. However they are a 1.5mm OD. This could be a problem if the frame mfg instruction say to drill to a 1.4mm dia.

However, they will fit the prongs better and are much stronger than the ones that come with the frames.

If you can purchase the Silhouette bushings, you need to order their BLS 58 (hard) instead of the BLS 40 (softer). They will work successfully with almost any frame (name brand or generic) that uses a 1.35 to 1.50 mm hole.
You can order the BLS 58 bushings in 100 packs from Silhouette. Once again, a little pricey, but they work great, and are always available.

We have the Hilco plugs which I use when I run out of safilo, they work well, they aren't as consistent on their sizing, but it's nothing a minute with a reamer can't fix.

I beg to differ! These 1.5 bushing would prove to be useful if the holes were made slightly large on a Silhouette frame. I'd call them "repair" bushings!

I use the Hilco 1.4 hard bushings, but have some of the 1.5 bushings for repairs of those inferior Silhouette frames. :D

Hilco has 1.4 in hard and medium. 1.5 in hard only.
