    CL Specialist Needed- S.California

My doc (OMD) is looking for a contact lens fitting specialist in Southern California for his patient.
This gentleman has had 2 cornea transplants and cannot tolerate a third. He is a keratoglobus patient and the doctor feels he may need a scleral type contact lens. He has previously been seen by Dr Weissman at UCLA but looking for someone who may have experience with this type condition. Do any of our S. California members know of someone we may be able to contact? Thank you!

Contact The CLSA.org I am sure they have someone in S. California that can handle the job.
Otherwise contact Danker Labs, they still make Scleral lenses and may have a customer in the area that can help you.

    Chip,
Actually, the CLSA.org is the Canon Law Society of America. Since my doc is Jewish, he may not find that site real useful. ;) I'm assuming maybe some letters got mixed around?

Thank you, I didn't quite put together the clsa part until your post and now have found them at clsa.info.
I somehow have a feeling that having Chip around a few days would be very entertaining. :D

SCCO in Fullerton is an option.

Try Dr. Super in Brentwood, and there is also Dr. Cacciotti in Westwood, both excellent OD's.

Surely some teaching organisation in California has someone knowlegable and at least trained in the history of contacts well enough to do this.

If all else failed there are a couple of sources of semi-scleral (not made from direct molding of the eye and not covering almost entire scleara) that trial sets could be obtained and if a satisfactory fit obtained, refracted over and ordered.

Somebody somewhere in California must know what they are doing.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I have been contacted by Danker labs and should be hearing something soon.

    Myeyeonyou,
Thank you. I did not have time to contact either today. Do you know if they are experienced in this type of cl fitting?

I don't know if Danker has anyone is experienced in fitting scleral lenses anymore but they have been making them since at least the 1930's.
Thier founder, Fred Danker (whom, I think is still alive) is one of the grandfathers of contact lenses.
Danker aquired Obrig many years ago which also had founders (Theo. E. Obrig and Phillip Salvatori) who had an awfull lot to do with the "perfection" and development of scleral lenses.
I also suspect Soper Bros. In Houston, has someone (at least Joe could and he probably taught mark) who can fit scleral lens. If Jack Case or Jim Dipprey are still around they know how. I can fit one, and I suspect that Jim Tannehill in Hawaii can.
Don't know why no one in California can.
A good ocularist should be able to take the impression and make a positive for you. Danker can make the lens.

I just had apatient fit for them (scleral lenses) by an outfit in Boston. Patient is doing very, very well. He adapted very swiftly, and doesn't even feel them when wearing!

I will get the name for you if you need it!

Thanks FEZZ. At this time he's looking locally but I'll keep this in mind.

If they don't they know who will, they have been in the area for many many years.
