as far as our optical shop is concerned, the coach zyl has been a big dissapointment as far as holding it's shape is concerned. It is not unlike other zyl frames made today. It is my understanding that the zyl for most of today's frames come from the same source, subsequently react similarly to heat.

    Ask your Reps...

    MEB,
Some manufactures "retire" a frame before its discontinued so its available at both a discount and with a warranty . Its not something even every rep knows about (or every company does) but you have to be willing to buy in bulk (usually at least 100 sometimes 200). They do this when they are not making (or ordering) any more of a model but still have a lot in the warehouse (with usually a color or two completely out). It happens a lot when a manufacture restyles a large portion of their line.

You may need an experience rep though to pull this off,

I understand why, but, coupled with the lack of quality and now inventory in new frame releases nationwide, it seems purchasing discontinued closeouts are becoming more of a logical attractive consideration. Mind you, I wouldn't completely throw the baby out with the bath water, but buy a much higher percentage of closeouts. I agree with many of your posts, I am having a difficult time determining a good consistant frame line that has high quality, maybe with the exception of cazals, which we sell a much lower amount of than other lines.

    Return to Quality

Umm beware, this is a shameless plug. But a return to quality is why we started our brand. We have a new ratchet/spring hinge design that screws into the frame, wont loose screws, and is guaranteed for life!

For optics we use the best glass from Barberini in Italy. Currently only suns but new styles to come for Spring 09.

    glass

There is actually some new technology with glass that Barberini is doing.

Their Polarized lenses use Super Thin wafers (1.1mm) that are often practically as light as poly. And the glass is chemically tempered to be virtually shatter proof. Their lenses are amazing.

Think early Persol, Revo and Maui Jim, but most of those have moved on to use less expensive/lower quality lenses

    Wave Quality is gone

I don't think you can find quality frames..The word quality it self doesn't exist nowadays.:finger:. Actually you can't find quality in any thing in today's world.

    Top Hole Titanium

[quote=rdcoach5;274454]Charmant in general and especially Charmant Flex are very good quality...quote]

Charmant has for years prided itself on its high quality titanium and have several models 8105 & 8123E that have been in the range for over 10 years. Customers are often suprised to be able to replace a frame that has done them well for 5 - 6 years with a model that is still current and still made as well as the original although that dosen't make for great turnover :bbg:

    Redhot Jumper

The followings are the d'Or Awards named at the annual Silmo.

Children's Frame: Zoobug style Daisy 01
    Sport: Demetx style Foblerd
Optical Frame: Morel's Osaka Syle by Nomad

But I haven't had the reasons that the items had been selected.

How do you evaluate the frame as top quality product?

I think that the design of frame is the top priority of customer's selection at this moment.
Those may be the trend of nowadays frame:
    * Light weight
    * the repetition of Slim and thick as well as small and large in frame by timely fashion
    * Fashionable colors
    * Twisting frame....

Do you have any idea about how to evaluate frame as quality product?:)

Shamefull plug is more like it!

You got quality? Quality? Are you sure about that?

Why don't you put your money where your mouth is? If your quality is so earth shattering that you had to slither in and plug your sunglass shenanigans, why don't you prove it?

    I say:

If you believe that you can walk the walk that you talk .....prove it. I suggest that you send 7 of my most trusted Optiboard Friends and I, 25 of your finest sunglasses at no charge. Believe me, if they are half the *quality* that you claim, your small investment will reward you with a hefty return!

    So, you got quality.....................................show us!

    PROVE IT!!!!

Wink How to evaluate frame quality?

    :)
The followings may be the evaluation items of quality of frame.

    1. Weight: The less, the better.
    2. Longevity (durability) : The longer, the better
    3. Soft to skin : The more soft, the better
    4. Shape changability manually for customer's face fitting (Limited memory)
    :The more changable, the better
    5. Others

However, customers would select fashionable (looking-good design in the contemporary fashion) or price oriented frames rather than quality ones.

Customers always think about "value to money," when they decide to buy glasses as a basic consumer's behavior rule.:)

Insurance, IMHO, has facilitated this attitude greatly.

"Do you take my eyewear insurance" is today, infinitely heard more than "I'd like a truly wonderful, quality pair of eyewear."

    Dear Mr. Fezz

I appreciate a healthy dose of sarcasm and provocation, and welcome a good old fashion challenge. I accept! I know for sure that we can walk and talk at the same time.

<p>So, I will put my mouth where my money is, which is where it usually is, and send you some frames for you post reviews.

In regards to being shamefull or shameless (i'm not sure which is worse). You need to be when you're a small independent brand up against the likes of megaliths like LUX (a.k.a. the Borg). Since i am already awash in shame here is another link to an article about our brand.

In addition, does anyone see a disconnect between the demand on our part for well-made, long-wearing frames and our need to sell patients a new pair every 1-2 years?

I wasn't sure if that was it, or if it was Acuity Optical. (Or both!)

Me likey Seiko...not cheap, but pretty good.

Flexon 600 series (yeah, yeah) pretty good.

Old Modo or anything from 1990's Japan: amazing.

    ProDesign good.

Actually, Safilo's Adensco line is pretty good for the money.

    Tura? Ok, I guess.

Luxottica: generally very good. Company: pain. (Price, quality, service. Choose one.)

    Oakley: very good.

    My number 1 is Silhouette
My number 2 is Giorgio Armani
    My number 3 is Oga

Oga I do not carry.... yet. I had the rep pop in 2 weeks ago and she showed it to me. She said in all her time she has NEVER sent one back for "Damage" as that the frames are made to a great high quality standard with high grade thick aluminum. So I asked if I could put a frame through the ringer and see if I could "Damage" one. She agreed, I did everything, sat on it, stepped on it, twisted it like the worlds strongest baby, and did everything except run over it with my 3 Ton pickup. Noting happened to them, however I didn't put them into the glasses case, lord knows every frame that I see damaged "Just came out of the case that way" lol. The only down side of them for me is the cost on those suckers.

We put them in from expo, and we live in fairly low income sort of remote area and we've sol through half of our eighteen buy in! They've gone really well, seriously the first one I sold was to a twelve year old kid. Mom picked it up, said this feels sturdy and didn't bat an eye at the price point so don't let hat stop you
