Without sounding like an idiot... what's an "ED" trifocal?
it's an exec tri with a ft for the reading. I did one a few months back. I had no trouble getting it from the small lab I use.
Wait, what? I know what an executive tri is... but what do you mean "With a FT for the reading"?
Yep!
Kids!!! Picture an exec Tri and take out the bifocal area and insert a FT. It gave intermediate in the lower peripheral area as well as straight ahead.
That's exactly what I pictured... but I can't for the life of me figure out why you would use it. What benifit does that have over a normal trifocal, or an exec tri?
Yes, it's still available and Luzerne can supply it. :D
CR-39 up to a 3.00 add. ST 25 is 8mm below exec seg line.
Used to use it for pianists a lot.

Vision Ease use to have the FD Tri which had 11 or 13 mm seperation and a 28 seg. but, I don't think it'sw still available.
We used it a few times to make the glasses weigh a ton, and to guaranty the correct PD as in any exec type lens.
Seriously, if someone had it, I wouldn't want to be the one to try and change it.:finger:
I hate being the last to know! Charlie in Wilkes-Barre tells me that Sola discontinued the lens just a few weeks ago.
I can see where the wider intermediate segment would be helpful for them, but I'm still trying to wrap my head around it... why would you use that over an exec tri? Just the weight factor? I'd imagine they'd already be heavy, not to mention ugly as anything. Why not just go all out exec tri and give them the wider reading? (I'm not asking this as it pertains to the OP, just asking in general.)
The ED was designed to be an task specific lens primarily for intermediate use. Musicians, artists, etc. who needed a significantly wide intermediate really liked the lens. It was definitely a niche product and I sold a few of them over the years.
OBXEYEGUY!!!!!!! Love it!! "KIDS"
Nope Luzerne cannot get it, I called.
No 4 base no 6 base no 8 base
Yes it is a lens that has been on again and off again in the market for the last 40 years. Well 30 at least.
I thought everyone who was a "Optician" knew what a ED Trifocal is.
It is included in lens identification on state and national test.
