    Bailout fails.......the fun begins!

Stock market down 700 points but recovering somewhat. Everyone in the market has lost about 10% today. Before you say that doesn't affect you, check to see where the money in your retirement account is invested. The fun begins now. Candidates are promising the bailout is not dead.....but what else did you expect from them?

All the folks who wanted this to fail got their wish....now let's see what happens. Prediction......the Sun will still rise in the East tomorrow.

Remember when we were all arguing about privatizing Social Security? How's that looking right now?

    Degregulation at it's best

I guess we all know now for sure how letting the market regulate itself works. It don't. How is it that CEOs can run companies into the toilet and manage to get huge bonuses? Last time I checked, if I do a lousy job I will get fired not paid more.

I think there should be a tax on short selling, leveraging, hedge funds, and other sorts of gambling. Not on straight buying and selling of securities. That'll stop the nonsense.

Why (ever) retire when highly-skilled people (such as yourself) are in such demand?

The interesting thing is the support this bill had. If I am correct, it had the support of:

    - The Administration
    - Obama
    - McCain
    - The Senate
    - The House Majority Leader
    - The House Minority Leader

Very interesting how the other members of Congress decided to vote against the wishes of those juggernauts.

I thought it happened because taxes are too high and regulation existed :p

If you start eating cat food now, and don't get sick, you'll be able to retire at 93 years 4 months. :bbg:

I heard on the way home that it was a Republican revolt with some surprising support from a few Dem's (most notably for me Wm Delahunt).
Haven't seen the news yet but if that's true I think it will be quite some time before you see a Republican majority in either the house or the senate, and it should be the death knell for the McCain bid for the presidency. If you ask me, its time to throw them all out and start over. It may well be the time is ripe for a revolution....at the ballot box of course.

    See...look at the bright side!

The price of oil went down! Hopefully the price of gas will follow (along with my $73.18 of savings!)!

Gas? I don't need no stinking gas!

I've got my spot picked out under the 4th street bridge already.

Hey! How bad can it be? I already don't golf, don't have a TV, and drive a piece of garbage.

This might be a step up!

If you want to retire any time soon, the house brand is your best bet.

They thought they may have the votes to pass it, not sure, but they felt pretty good. Then Pelosi made a speech , frying Bust, and putting ALL the blame on him. What an idiot. Maybe you think she was right but the timing was bad, bad. ****** off the iffys. Hell, maybe it was a stroke of genius. Make sure to regain the White House for her party (screw the cost).
I predict obama by a landslide. It's gonna be a hoot watching him try the job. I just hope it's all worth the cost of admission.

At this point who cares whose fault it is. Any congressman not voting in favor has done a disservice to the country. One point two TRILLION was lost in a little more than 6 hours today. If you had any money in the market, either directly or in a retirement account, you lost about 10% today, and the foreign markets haven't even opened up yet. Wait till the Dow goes to 8K (which won't be long at this rate. All those companies who need short term financing, all the consumer credit limits shrinking, the banks failing ( One in England today) You are in for some serious bad times. Those of us counting on a reasonably secure retirement are very worried right now, because today it went up in smoke.
