Reinforces Critical Role Vision Plays in Improving a Golfer’s Game
PINELLAS PARK, Fla., September 18, 2008 – Transitions Optical, Inc. today announced an expansion of its consumer awareness program to educate golfers about the importance of healthy, quality sight by tapping the expertise of professional golf instructor and swing coach, Matt Killen. He will serve as the lead golf contributor for the Improve Your Vision, Improve Your Game program, which eyecare professionals will be able to leverage in their own patient marketing and education efforts.

Killen coaches several PGA TOUR players associated with this year’s Ryder Cup, including Kenny Perry, J.B. Holmes, Chad Campbell and Team USA captain, Paul Azinger.

“Both players and spectators spend extended periods of time outdoors, which makes it critical to protect the eyes from the sun,” said Killen. “Proper eye protection helps players to avoid eye fatigue and allows them to continue to use their eyes as an essential piece of equipment to accurately set up shots and prolong their ability to play at a high level.”

Playing golf requires a range of visual skills, including eye-hand coordination, speed and accuracy of eye movements, focusing, depth perception, judgment of location and reading contours. With such obstacles as varying lighting and playing conditions, distracting glare and ongoing exposure to ultraviolet radiation, visual ability can be affected without proper eyecare and eyewear.

Killen, a Transitions® lenses wearer, will contribute to the Improve Your Vision, Improve Your Game program by co-authoring a weekly blog and offering consumers golf tips through an interactive tool called a widget, which can be accessed by visiting www.transitions.com.

“Transitions Optical is committed to educating golf enthusiasts and consumers worldwide about the importance of protecting and maintaining healthy sight – today and tomorrow,” said Brett Craig, president, Transitions Optical. “We are proud that Transitions has been designated the Official Eyewear of the PGA TOUR, Champions Tour and Nationwide Tour and we look forward to working with Matt to help golfers improve their game by improving their vision.”
