    Ed Hardy at Costco

I had a patient come into our store the other day and said, oh yea I like the Ed Hardy's sunglasses they have them at Costco too. I was like Holy cow! I can't believe it. I wonder how they got a hold of the product? I was told that places like that, would not carry them, that's why I put the line in cry!

Maybe so, but the Ed Hardy line is only a few months old. It's not discontinued product like most of the brand names that they have.

Like Maui? Yeah right! They mass produce thousands of pieces, put a few hundred in privates optical. A few months later, they make their real money and call them "closeouts". Then they deliver the rest of them to Costco. The private guy has done his job of educating the consumer, and Costco takes over from there.

I've never set foot in a Costco, BJs, or Sam's Club. They could be doing Lasik surgery for all I know!

Fill us in...what are they carrying these days?

I thought Lux sold BJ's (I kinda like the way that sounds, but it's not what I meant)

    Lux and BJ's . . . hehehehe

Lux bought the franchising rights to BJ's Optical, however this past year they decided not to renew.

As far as Costco having Ed Hardy, Let them have it! They are the most ill fitting frames I have ever tried on. And while I get the edgy look they are going for, but all those rhinestones, well lets suffice it to say there can be too much of a good thing

Those are some of the fugliest frames I have ever seen in my entire life. The whole clothing line is ridiculous. I think it's a fast fad that has already seen it's day and that may be why Costco already has them and welcome to it. Revolution has some of the only women's sun clip frames around so I did put in a small amount this year. My patients were asking and I had to find something.

coco, they make cool shoes though....I admit to having a pair. I also saw an ad for Ed Hardy kids frames with magnetic clip ons in a trade mag. The line is over a year old I think, there could be some discos already. Costs a lot to have Pamela Anderson in your booth and you gotta get the money from somewhere!;)

Possibly not the EXACT Ed Hardys. I have noticed at Sams Club they tend to have slightly different Suns than we get. I am guessing maybe a lesser product? Or perhaps discontinued?

I completely eliminated all things Revolution when I was told they would not warranty lost stones on any of their frames, including the Ed Hardy frames I was planning on buying. I was told by customer service to go to Michael's and buy replacement stones and set them with super glue. At that point, all remaining Revolution frames in my office were sold at half price with no warranty.

    Good riddance!!!!!

I do just as much educating at costco as I did working for an OD....And I make double.

I am not saying that you can get everything that you can get at a private at costco, but we do sell quality stuff, and I have worked for Docs, LC, and walmart so I know.
We definately aim the higher end stuff to people looking to advertise their favorite brand name, weather it is a premium frame or not. If it says Ed Hardy on it they will buy it, regardless of how crappy it is.
The sad part is, It is costco...SO, when the stones fall out, and the barrels get stripped, we will have to give them their money back...

I was refering specifically to Maui Jim. It's the independents that lend credibility to the product.

This wasn't a bash against Costco, I was pointing out how independents play into the MJ scam of "discontinuing" product for the purpose of stocking the big box.

Ever wonder why it seems that when they disco an MJ, it is often one of your best sellers?

What about Aspex and Takumi Coco?? We carry their lines here and do very well for both men, children and women's sunclip frames. They have a wide variety for everyone, from the conservative to the really wild. (at least for a little midwest town like this!)

I was turned off by revolution when after they settled their lawsuit they sent me a box of 30 frames without asking. all they included was a note saying they were going to give them to me at 50% with no warranty and if i sold them i could make a huge profit. Any MFG that sends me 1,500 worth of product without asking me first is not someone i want to deal with. Aspex made a wonderfull replacement.
