    Cat Crap??

    Hi all!

Has anyone tried this 'Cat Crap' stuff? LOL!! The name alone gives me the shivers!! Any benefit to having this stuff around? Or to selling it in optical? Please don't ban me for this post!! I didn't want to do it, my boss made me ask.

I got a sample @ SECO last year and it worked alright. Not enough for me to keep in the office. Might be better for things like googles for ski/snowboarding.

Thanks for the input. I was just thinking...We are in the southeast, where people go in and out of A/C and high humidity of outdoors. Glasses fog up alot here in the summer. Perhaps that is why my boss is interested in it. I don't wear glasses all the time so I don't notice the fogging as much as some. But selling something called, "Cat Crap" would be intereting in it self.

I've heard that spit works for anti-fogging just as well..maybe they should reconsider!

Well, the name sure got my attention. :D

Most of the products like this I've seen have repelled fogging for a short period of time, but over several hours they've broken down. Does anyone know if this one's better?

Can any of us really sell this with a straight face? ;)

We use Clarity DefogIt. It works pretty well. We've tested several.

On a cruise to the Caribbean last year, we went snorkeling in the Grand Caymans, and the captain recommended mixing a 50/50 solution of baby shampoo and filtered water in a spray bottle to keep your goggles from fogging. That worked surprisingly well, and is dirt cheap to make.

I've used it for years when skiing- it's no more expensive than other products of its genre and works great. Their lip balm is good stuff too!

I can just hear myself now..."We have this 'cat crap' that will keep your lenses from fogging up." Any bets on how fast people would run for the door?

EK is a Logan Utah based company - small-ish in size. Just a bunch of hard working Joes who believe in their products. I've had a chance a couple times to visit Ed Kalbach (the company's pres and namesake) and tour their facility. Impressive stuff. If you're about supporting a local (for those of us in the intermountain west), or at least VERY non-corporate company, EK's stuff is worth a look.

Their cat crap has been around for a long time, and is sold with some vigor on the ski slopes out here in winter. Their neck cords are also some of the better ones I've used. Only my 2 cents. YMMV.

I use this solution when diving and it works great. I keep a bottle with me when my glasses start acting up

I wonder where the company got it's name from, as I recall it's a blue waxy substance.

    EK from Ed Kalbach.

    Cat Crap....who knows. Ed's a bit of a wild guy, so it's anyone's guess. ;)

Chris--How long does your Zero Fog stay effective? The product we use now needs to be applied practically daily. Living in SW Florida lens fogging is a real problem when you get out of A/C and into the warm humid air.

my concern would be someone getting confused and using the wrong kind of cat crap on their specs.

we sold this in the last place I worked. The best testimony I can give for it is the chef that was constantly above boiling pots in the kitchen at his work. The Cat Crap worked like a charm...although I can't say the name of it is the brightest idea, considering you're smearing the stuff on your lenses.

Zero Fog actually stays effective on the lens until it gets wiped or washed off.

As it contains also ant-static properties lenses will stay clean longer. I have been able to go actually 4 days without cleaning them, but would say thats about the maximum.

On the other hand if you sell only one spray or cream bottle a year you and me would starve.

Having a place in SW Florida I am fully aware that the hot environment requires anti fog products as much as northern countries where the situation is exactly reversed.

Last Friday afternoon we made a new discovery after many month's of researching. We found a way to make a permanent anti fog coating that can easily be applied in house by an optician. Another addition to our MicroTint System. I will start a post on this in a few days when we have some more data on the subject.

I think it was originally designed for use on hunting scopes. Works great-small container
