The Vision Council Wins Award for Eye Safety Kit
Alexandria, VA (September 11, 2008) – Recognizing the nation’s best consumer health information programs and materials, the National Health Information Awards Program chose The Vision Council’s “Eye Safety Kit” as a winner in its 15th annual competition. The winning entries were chosen from more than 1,000 submissions judged by a national panel of health information experts.

The Vision Council’s “Eye Safety Kit” received a Bronze Award for Direct Mail in the Health Promotion/Disease and Injury Prevention Information category. This kit was developed in an effort to educate physical education teachers, coaches and parents about the importance of eye safety in sports for children. The Vision Council and the National Association for Sport & Physical Education (NASPE) partnered to distribute these kits to over 20,000 NASPE members and physical education teachers last year.

“It is an honor to receive an award from the National Health Information Awards Program,” said Ed Greene, The Vision Council’s chief executive officer. “We work hard developing creative educational pieces to get the word out about the importance of protecting your vision, and it brings us great pleasure to know that our efforts are recognized by top health experts as an effective education tool.”

The awards program is coordinated by the Health Information Resource Center, a national clearinghouse for consumer health information programs and materials. The Center, which houses a large collection of such public and private sector materials, promotes the distribution of accurate, timely consumer health information materials to professionals and managers in the field.

Last year The Vision Council’s “An Eye Doctor Can See Things You Can’t” public service advertisement campaign, developed in partnership with AARP, and the “Our Amazing Eyes” teaching guide, created with Scholastic Publishing and Transitions Optical, Inc., were also winners in the National Health Information Awards Program.
