Where in the World is Osama Bin Ladin - The Documentary

Interesting documentary that I feel you all should rent.

Watched it last night. He went to Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and Pakistan, getting different opinions of the World and of Osama Bin Ladin.

I think it helps dispel some of the myths out there.

It might be awhile before I get around to viewing it. Not a bad excuse for going to a video store, however, if it can be rented just like "Legally Blond" or some other more common thing like that.

Would you care to expand on your phrase "myths [that] are out there.."--?

Now of course, before you watch it, I am not advocating a blind devotion to it. Just an open mind.

The myths surrounded the idea that terrorism is bigger than Osama. How terrorism is actually growing, instead of being killed. The idea that people in muslim nations are not excited to be occupied.

    Stuff like that.

The movie was not like a Michael Moore picture where he interviewed someone, and then put in his his social commentary on it. It was mainly just interviewing people from these nations. Of course, selection and editing can always be used to develop a preferred image, but even so I think the message just offers a different perspective to the whole terrorism problem that is facing the World.

and there we have it. Chip makes up his mind without viewing the film.

Glad to see that we have open minded people.

"The idea that people in Muslim nations are not excited to be occupied.."

I would ask if they interviewed anyone who is currently residing in Iraq, such as those who are aligned with the Anbar Awakening, which is opposed to al-Qaida, or the former Shiite militiamen (and women) who are now working in concert with the U.S. and Iraqi national security forces, or some of the Kurds in the northern part of Iraq.. or any of the Iraqis who just took their children to enjoy the public swimming pools that opened the other day in Baghdad..

Unless they interviewed a cross-section of Iraqis, I would say that a large segment of the population that needs to be polled has been overlooked.

Just my 2 cents worth, not having (yet) seen the documentary.

    Thanks for posting about this.

The general opinion by most of those interviewed in the movie (they did not go in Iraq) is that they oppose the American occupation of their lands. With that said, and this is important, they also oppose the means used by terrorists.

I think, from what I have read and heard, that is the sentiment in Iraq. While many despised Saddam, and while many hate the terrorism, they also dislike the American occupation. They would prefer their own armies to defend them, even if it is corruption.

I guess the argument there is corrupt government will eventually be taken out by its people.

The movie did briefly discuss the foreign position of propping up their supported leaders in these nations who suppressed civil liberties (it was only 1989 when the US turned against Saddam) to fight its own interests. Thus creating said terrorists. I mean it is a complicated problem. To me, it is one of the biggest reasons why I was against Iraq, because I saw these problems in the past, and how these problems led to new problems. Yet, we have not learned from our mistakes.
