VSP and Marchon

Just curious about everyone's take on VSP's purchasing of Marchon: Do you think it will have a (1) positive, (2) negative, or (3) no effect on independents who don't accept VSP (or any managed vision care plans)? OMG...I need a new job. I awakened before 5 AM thinking about this!

There is no way of forecasting any of these results....................however if you go back into the OptiBoard archives 6 to seven years you will see that a majority of members were still singing glory to Luxottica who had become their largest competitor in the optical retail by controlling about 35% of the market.

We don't accept VSP and won't support them by continuing to dispense their frames.

Why should give our competitor our hard-earned profits just so they can dominate us in our own market?

This was my thought when Lux bought Lenscrafters. My business dealings stopped right there. I thought the industry would have done the same! Obviously they didn't.

Marchon.....they STINK! They have STUNK for a long time. In my eyes, they have been DOA for a bunch of years.

I've noticed your average VSP OD in the Midwest and East tends to sell more middle of the road bread and butter frames, the Altair line was perfect.

I've noticed your average independant Optician in the Midwest and East tends to sell the better more progressive lines.

I think where Marchon is going to see the drop are in their Coach, Fendi, and Nike lines. Unless, they decide to add opticians to the panel, but it probably is too late.

Not sure about California, worked there many years ago, found the population more brand consious, but also all three Os were aware of that fact.
