    Teeny tiny jewelry tags

This is making me crazy! I use tiny jewelry tags on my frames--little stiff white tags with a thin purple thread to attach. I used to have no trouble finding the right size: 5/8" x 1/4" but Avery stopped making it some years ago. I found some at Elman Labels years ago and although they weren't perfect (one side was slick, so I had to wait for the ink to dry before using) they worked well. I just ordered another box of 1000 from Elman and the tags now have thick strings instead of the thin threads. The tag looks weird that way and unattractive on an elegant frame. I can't seem to find what I want anywhere. I've checked so many websites I'm going nuts; everyone seems to carry only the smallest Avery tags and they are just too darned big.

Does anyone have a source for what I need?

Have you tried the jewelry suppliers?? There could (or maybe should) be one in the DC area. If not try Tripps Inc., Do a web search, I know they have a site.

Thanks Jacqui! I did try jewelry shops in Washington, but they all seem to use those plastic ones. I called Tripps & I think they have what I'm looking for. Their minimum purchase is $25, but the tags are less than that. The very nice woman in customer service said she would waive the minimum for me, this time. If this works out, I'll be so happy!

I got sick of tags ( the look of them and handling them too). I just use a Staedtler F pen and write the price small on the demo lens. It doesn't fade and comes off easy enough with non-acetone fingernail polish remover if I need to send it back for credit.

I don't display frames with demo lenses. They are such cheesy plastic and always smudged and scratched. I keep them in just long enough to align the frame before I put it on the shelf, then out they go.

I don't send frames back, either. I think it's a really bad thing in the optical business and drives up the costs for everyone. If I like a frame well enough to buy it, I should be able to sell it. And if I can't, I send it to Jacqui for her charity program!

Good !! They are very nice down there (New Mexico freindly??), I buy a lot of jewelry parts from them.

A thought for all lab people and dispensers, Tripps also carries some of the lesser seen tools that we use.

Disclaimer !! I do not work for Tripps Inc.

I thought sending back was a bad thing too, the way all the frame companies say it increases their costs of business....

Well, I've asked every single one of the big boys ( and not so big boys) for a discount if I don't return anything, even defects. Guess what each and everone of them told me??

    NFWIH!!!!

( anyone need a translation, just pm me.)

So why should I play "nice" when they don't?

p.s. do you really think by not sending frames back you are helping to keep the price down? Just like they lowered prices when they moved manufacturing over to China. Remember when they did that? Oh yea, they didn't drop them.....

    will any of these work?

If the direct link is gone, head to the homepage and type "tag" in the search box. That's how i found them

Great company to work with. I used to deal with them in my former corporate life.

Have found that patients complain of "Minnie Pearl" look with any sort of tag on frame. Try getting a fine point sharpie and marking in the corner of lens with fine print whatever you want it to say. Removable with alcohol or even faster with acetone.

A while back I was searching for the type of price tags we use, and though Staples doesn't carry them, I recalled seeing what I believe you're looking for. Is this them?

    Thanks for all the help!

Y'all are a great resource! I think Stuller has what I want. If the ones I ordered from Tripps aren't the right size, I'll order from Stuller.

And Chip, the tags are quite easy to tuck between the temple of the frame and the side of the person's head when trying on the frame. It eliminates the Minnie Pearl problem. And, as I mentioned, I don't keep demo lenses in frames.

    Thanks again, everybody!

    Update on my search

Just got the tags from Tripps. The size is okay, but the string is kind of thick and the tag itself is rather cheap looking--grayish, rather than pure white. I'm going to try Stuller now & see if theirs is better before I send these back to Tripps.

I'll report back when I've got my next order!

I think I must have OCD to spend so much time on this! The Arch Crown tags are too big and Stuller won't deal with me because I'm not a jeweler. And Kassoy's strings look too thick.

    Fezz, I think I need a drink!

I don't know if anyone cares about this anymore

I got the jewelry tags from Stuller. The tags is barely thicker than paper and the string is a little too thick, but I'm giving up at this point. They only charged $5.00/1000 tags, so I can't complain and won't send them back. But here's the kicker: they're made by Vigor/Grobet!!!!!!!!!! I feel like I've come full circle. They are not, however, in the Vigor catalogue.

    Fezz, where's my drink?

I've bought some tags from http://www.djtags.com (discount jewelry tags) and I've never had any complaints. I'm not sure if they have exactly the size you are looking for but I know they have a lot of different tags and labels.
