    Tint percentage of Drivewear Transitions?

What would you say is the tint level of a drivewear in its neutral state? 20? 30?

    Hi OpticalSLA,
DriveWear non activated transmission is 37% (63%tint).

Check out Youngers website dedicated to DriveWear lenses. Lot of cool interactive displays.

I recently bought a pair of Kodak Unique Drivewear AR coated lenses for some sunglasses and find they aren't really changing behind the windscreen of the car as advertised. How much do they change when you drive?

    Thanks - Mary Sue

    Hi MarySue,
Sorry it took so long to answer, I was away from the office Thursday on last week.

DriveWear changes to the amount of available light. Each driver and car, along with the outside conditions, create a unique situation. Your lens will change from the green color to a brown tint inside the car no matter the conditions. This color along with the NuPolar technology, create a very soothing driving lens. As far as % Transmission, it too is governed by the light that is available in your particular driving postion.

Were you uncomfortable driving or were you expecting the lens to be very dark in the car?

    my two bits...

I love my DriveWear. I live in sunny Florida and I have not been in a driving condition the DriveWear did not improve my vision. I recently drove 2.700 miles round trip to the midwest and back. From early morning to dusk, in the hazy mountains, driving rain and sunny skies, the lenses did well. I also liked the fact that the indoor color and clarity was such that I could read menus. I always had to change from my fixed tint dark gray polarized lens when going indoors. Before DriveWear, those were my favorite outdoor lenses for driving, fishing or hanging out on the beach.

Saying that, I do have to use the visor when driving direct into a rising or setting sun, but I had to do that with my other fixed tint dark polarized lenses too. This lasts until the sun clears the top of windshield. After that it is fine.

I have a question. I recently just received a set of drivewear. I love them, but I want them to look fashionable too. With my high rx, there are white edges that show through the front when it is lighter. What I want to do is tint those edges to look more attractive. They also have backside AR.

My question is if I use the microwave tint, and drop it in the brown for about 5 seconds, will it change the tint of the lens through the visible surface? I just want to tint the edges.

    Hi For-Life,

I would not recommend tinting a DriveWear lens. The color was fine tuned for different conditions and still meet color recognition standards.
You could upset the balance and lose traffic signal recognition.

I recall a company that exhibited at trade shows that made pens for coloring exposed edges. Would something like that work for you?

    best regards,
    Jim

At Lenscrafters we have this stuff called camo. It's like a pen to color the side of a lens in high scripts. I don't know if there is anything online about them. I'll see who the manufacture is and I'll post it. I know that is the best option. They look really good if you apply it right. BPI has it. http://www.callbpi.com/htm_cat/pens.htm Touch of Tint. That's not what we use. I know we have a brown, but I can't find anything online about it.

    Jim,

I was just reading about the scholarships being offered by Transitions.

Do they offer more educational support than that mentioned this forum herein?

    Respectfully,

    Transitions Partners in Education

    Hi Dbracer,

The scholarships for this year have been awarded.

I am not sure what what you are looking for, but Transitions Optical runs on line courses along with ABO and COPE trainings.

If you go to our website you will find under the Professional section an area detailing this year's programs called Partners in Education.

    regards,
    Jim
