Finding a lab for lenses

Hi. I am starting to import frames from various places, and have a few questions. I would like to know if there are any legal issues in bringing in frames from China, or any other place. Also, I would be intested in finding a lab that could make and insert the lenses on order. I live in NJ, and was wondering how one went about finding such a place.

Go on the optical website listing, scroll down to optical labs and you will find many lab listings at http://optochemicals.com/web_listing.htm

I am trying to understand what business you are actually doing. It sounds like it is internet based, is this correct?

I was thinking maybe he wanted demo lenses or something.

If he is importing eyewear from overseas, I never heard of a factory shipping without demo lenses.

Isn't New Jersey a licensed state?? Does he have a license?? Shouldn't he have a license even for internet sales?? I think he may be into something shady.

What does he even know about optic's, oh yeh, the Pt. is supposed to take thee measurements them selves,LOL.:hammer::hammer::hammer:

Actually it is not for internet sales. I am actually trying to find out what I need to open a store. I assume a license is needed. Looking fo info on how to get one.

You don't need an Opticians' license to open a store. You need one to fit and dispense eyewear and contact lenses.

Why don't you open a pizzaria instead? I absolutely mean no disrepect, but you must not have a lot of experience in optics to ask such fundamental questions. This is an extremely tough business to get into, especially when you're not a Dr. An experienced, and licensed optician would be hard pressed to open a successful optical in todays climate.

On the other hand, it would take far less money (and specific knowledge) to open a pizzaria or icecream shop. You'd also have a much better chance at thriving. ( just ask any starving optician!) Good luck!
