I hope that the small minority of Americans who currently contribute funds to the IRA will think again. The only reason I can think of, (that anyone would fund them in the first place), is that they didn't fully understand what they are financing. Having seen the tragic devastation terrorism brings, I hope they change their minds.

You are so right. Many well meaning people really don't realize what the IRA is. I will never forget about ten years ago when we were called by the high school our kids attended. One of our sons was found doodling IRA symbols in his notebook and on a test paper. As we expressed concern to him it became readily apparant he just thought it was an organization that advocated the rights of the Irish people and believed he was "exploring and supporting" his Irish heritage! We made him do research on the IRA including reading the official biography of Lord Mountbatten which was quite descritive on the attack that caused his death. He was mortified that he had been so unaware!

I had heard on the news today that the Queen was suspending the traditional changing of the guard for the playing of the American National Anthem! What a lovely show of solidarity and support!

I agree with your comments about the IRA! Being of Irish decent and a Catholic, I have heard for years about the war in Ireland! I think it is abosolutely lidicrious that Christians behave like this!

Hi Cindy,
the IRA, or the 'Real IRA' as they like to be known these days, are neither Catholic or Christian. They are a gang of violent men, who are prepared to hurt and kill innocent people to get what they want - which is usually money, through protection rackets, drugs trade etc.
People who are prepared to hurt others to get what they want are terrorists, and whether they kill one person or ten thousand it's just as bad.
I don't think it is possible to be a terrorist and to believe in God - the two are incompatible. Good and evil, I suppose.
