    Kappa users HELP!!

First time I have had to do this. I need to re-edge an exec (before you boo, I didn't sell them). Do I treat this like any other re-edge, except change the bevel to contolled to off-set the screwy bevel the feelers will get from the edge?? Sorry, I have never cut an exec on this machine in the 6 years I have had it.

If I used the controlled setting, I can chage the placement to wherever I want. Just not sure on an exec, and don't want to mess up customers own lenses.

Don't know about the Kappa, but the Optronics 6E has a special Exec bevel cycle that traces only the back of the lens. That said, the 6E is relatively poor at re-edging lenses unless there is 2mm or more clearance around the entire lens.If it won't hit the probe before roughing, forget it.

Trace it the way you normally would

    Custom set the bevel:

    toward the middle on top
toward the front on the bottom (seg)

    It'll be fine!

Button 8 - toggle the "X" off the re-edge setting.
Button 6 - toggle untill you get to the bevel with the yellow hand on it.

Then after the feelers have traced the lens

Button 3 - toggle to the highlight of yellow on the back of the bevel.
Button 5 or 6 - move the cursor on the screen to the thinnest spot on the segment.
Button 9 or 10 - to increase or decrease the bevel, you want to move the bevel from the absolute back of the lens towards the front untill you get to a specified setting, I use 0.8mm as the closest towards the front I go, anywhere from 0.8mm to 1.0mm should work fine.

PS - also when I re-edge I cut it large and then slowly take the lens down so that any hicups on the lens that don't get re-edged I can shape the frame and fit.

Worked out fine. Still looks like cr#p, but hey, its a +3.0 dist with a 2.75 add.. Weigh a ton. What I did came out fine. Used a 1.0 on the OD(thicker)and a .9 on the left at the thinnest spot. Thanks guys. Sure didn't want to have to buy a pair of those. On me!

Awesome, anyone else and my response would have been, "yeah you could use the custom setting." ;)
