Question Essilor Natural vs Accolade PAL

    Hi Everyone,

As I said before, I am just getting back into optical again after 10 years away, and there are all kinds of new progressive lenses now. The two that my optical lab uses mainly are the Essilor Natural and the Accolade. Are there any main differences between them?

I think there are threads on this somewhere, but here's my short take:

The Natural was developed around the same time as the Comfort and shares many of its characteristics. Soft design, non-aspheric. It was an ok lens in its day, although from what I saw most practitioners who could get Varilux opted for the Comfort, which is still Essilor's best selling lens.

The Accolade is an outgrowth of the Ovation. It's an aspheric design and varies the design to change slightly from harder (for myopes) to softer (for hyperopes). I know the Ovation was a well-received lens from its introduction and became the "go-to" lens for the big-box stores instead of the Natural.

So far I've found the Accolade and particularly the Accolade Freedom (with a freeform back surface, like the Physio 360) to be well-received by the patients. They like the vision and find the lens easy to get used to. In fact, if you research the threads on the Accolade Freedom on this board, I think you'll find that it's been better received and more successfully fitted than the Physio 360 -- and it doesn't cost as much!

Accolade seems to have less swim in the distance, but narrower reading area.
